Whos Ordered a 8800gt after seeing g92 GTS price?

odd how at 19x12 the ultra does better with aa, then at 25x16 theyre even again

theyre really going all out to get rid of their top end. i can only imagine the performance that the 9800GTX or 9800 ULTRA will give us

nobody got one delievered for £150 if they say they did they are telling porkies for one day there was a site for £152 but with delivery was £160.

the new gts is a real kick in the teeth for us mugs that payed £197 delivered for our gt from here 2 weeks ago theyve dropped the prices already

I bet even then some game devs will go and spoil it by bringing out a game thats too intensive for the card.. *cough* crysis..

Unlucky, you win some, you lose some, tis the nature of the beast.

Better luck next time, chin up me old mukka you still got an uber hand built gaming machine, who gives a flying pizza if someone managed to build a similar spec for £20 less.

Price plays an important part in all of this but slowly this forum is turning into some pseudo school of hardware economics?

It's all well and good to spend 20 hours a week reading the forums and buying and selling hardware at the right time but honestly some people are taking it to far here. I mean if you spent the same amount of time doing anything else (even a paper round) you would be much better off.

Everyone loves a bargain but its all about the hardware and the fun really, I don't see how anyone who owns an 8800GT or 8800GTS 512MB can have anything to grumble about . . .

Gonna be a good xmas for gaming :)

Who was to know though?. I bought this 2900Pro and at the time it WAS the best buy for price vs performance. A few dreams/nightmares later BLAMM!!!! the GT comes out and my good buy for a week or two was made out to be such a joke and I feel such a fool. At least you still have the performance though so be happy about that ;).

Only 12 hours and 50 minutes after the release :eek:. I just hope I can get one of these cards after Christmas as my AA performances with my current card aren't the best........

Well thats a harsh way of looking at it, the 2900Pro is still a nice card just happens that there is better out now, but isn't that always the way with PC hardware.

If the HD2900Pro really does your head in then just sell it and buy something better, I think I had the HD2900XT for three weeks and put it on auction the day the 8800GT was released.

Personally I'm gonna wait a couple of months for GTS prices to drop, then 'step up' my £223 EVGA Crysis edition GT to the best GTS I can blag :p

They've dropped the price already!!! Its almost like they were inflated for some unknown reason, plus the priced still haven't come down much. Hopefully my new GTS comes for £209

Would be good to hear of someone take advantage of that step-up. All I read about it is bad things?

TBH I might not bother now I think about it. For a start the EVGA Europe website has been down for weeks, and if their European branch can't maintain their own website then I'm not sure I trust them to successfully exchange my graphics card! I'm imagining sending my 8800GT into the postal abyss and never hearing of it again.

Also I'd have to send my GT to Germany, which will a) cost lots and b) leave me without a decent graphics card for quite a while. I'll do it if I can save significant money but if it's just a tenner or something then I won't bother.

Oh yeah it is always the way sadly.

It's not a harsh way of looking at it for me. What happened was kind of harsh and a little bit of a kick in the teeth after doing extra work at night in my spare time to get the money for the card as all my money was getting saved up for Christmas so I could really splash out this year on everyone. I've still got £1000 left to spend on Xmas before I get to spend money on ME!!!! (bah humbug!). I was just a bit gutted tbh B.Wayne. The GT's would have done me proud.

If I done my normal Xmas shopping then I'd have had a new card and new system already. I'd rather see happy faces than higher FPS and I should have the new system soon too. Patience has been tested a LOT reading all these posts with better/faster systems with these new cards GT/GTS (Grrrr :)) as well as the brief but excellent £240 GTX. If I had waited a few weeks more then my gaming IQ would have been a lot better to do me until I got my new system and to spend my money on me. So..... that's why I have a lemony bitter twist about my purchase and not about the card itself.

Oh and for the auction part. I got real lazy about it. Took the pictures and that was it. I sold my X1900 and PSU to a friend for very cheap and didn't want to be without a PC so I just left it and then decided to wait until after the year to buy a new system.

Hehe I like that :)

without going totally O.T I think maybe some people have 'the fear' of mailing stuff around the globe but once you do it once or twice you see its not so different to sending something in the U.K. Royal Mail have never let me down yet and their prices are pretty good unless your package weighs more then 2Kg.

Everytime I have to RMA a PSU back to Antec in the Netherlands it costs me approx £24 whereas the same package would be like £8.00 in the U.K

Anyway I'm still not certain if the EVGA 'step-up' is a worthwhile selling point? I'm still waiting to read a post from someone who's used it?

Step up aside its easy enough to sell a used card on MM or at auction so you just need to pull your finger out.

Well you wouldn't be the first person to have a grumble about their hardware being 'outmoded' a few weeks after purchase.

I mean I have no idea how you came to purchase a HD2900Pro? . . . how much research did you do? or did you happen to get caught up in the wave of HD2900Pro hysteria that swept through these forums once people realised they could get an effective HD2900XT for a lot cheaper?

The guy I feel more sorry for is the one who bought a full priced (£240 ish) HD2900XT moments before the Pro was released, thats a much bigger loss than what you are looking at.

Feel free to have a grumble but in reality what youve experienced is nothing more than getting hit with a parking ticket, yeah pain the **** but you get over it! :)

Slacker! :p

I'm sure you may have good reasons for not getting it together but sometimes it pays to push yourself that extra mile lol. I was a bit klonky when I first started trading but you get better at it with practice (as with most things). No matter how versed a 'trader' you are it still takes up time and involves some effort.

Now what the heck is this thread about again? :o

No-one actually uses it as they charge full-price for the upgrade card, and it's usually much cheaper to sell the original card and buy a new one from a discounter.

... and I certainly won't be the last :). Also I shamefully admit that I was caught in the wave of the cheap XT hysteria and didn't think the GT would be as good as it was plus I thought it would be around Xmas time for the release as well as hiked prices. I was wrong about the release of the GT but not about the pricing or availability. I feel sorry for the late buyer of the XT too and I hope you know that I'm not really that disappointed in any way (life's too short). It was just after unplugging the GTX's that I felt the burn when playing the same games with the Pro.

Yes :o, I am a slacker lol you've found me out :). The odd herbal cigarette can do that to me too often on the holiday season. Whatever card I buy next will be kept for back up purposes and I will be able to trade without lack of PC again or I might keep the Pro but it's a bit of a power hog.

To get back on topic ...

...with the GT's availability and raised prices then why would you go and order a GT when you can actually buy a GTS for just a few quid more?. If I was to order now then to pay the extra few quid for the GTS being faster, newer and so far as seen with more overclocking potential then you'd be crazy to wait in line for an older, slower card for the extra money you'd have to spend to actually be playing a game with a GTS. Especially when it's the holiday season and very cold outside. This is the time of the year when you will sit down and play games more so I don't think £30 between the cheapest available GT to the GTS is something I'd worry about. Especially when you are getting a faster card as well as more clocking potential. I think that's well worth the £30 but that's my view.

What do you all think?.

Good point :)

So the question a gamer needs to ask themselves is, what games are they intending to play over Xmas and make sure they got the best hardware they can afford.

Personally speaking if I was somebody who didn't have a modern GPU and needed a card for xmas then the Overclockers.co.uk 8800GT looks like a good deal (assuming it does come into stock before xmas?)
