Hello Chaps,

I bought one of the OcUK 8800GTX cards this week, installed it and it works fine in XP.

But within 5 minutes or so of playing games I get a kind of short whistle and the machine shuts down followed a few seconds later by a restart.

My mate says it might be the psu not being powerful enough, but although it is a 700w and has 2 pci-e connectors it is a cheapy make :( so he could be right.

Anyway, rather than spending money on a new psu which might not be the problem, can I use a molex to pci-e adapter cable in 1 of the sockets on the GTX as well as the psu connector (these - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-018-AK) or would it be better to use 2 of these cables???

Thanks a lot guys for the help!!!! :)

99% sure it will be your PSU, what name/make is it?
Using another connector wont make any difference, its the rails in the PSU that cant take the load.
What other components are you running with the PSU? MB CPU RAM etc.

Indeed, the problem is in the PSU. The card whines like that when it's not getting enough power. I suggest the Corsair HX 620 as a solution to this problem.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The psu is from M@plins (waits now for abuse) I got it cos they are a few minutes away and I was desperate.

I have a fair bit in my machine. Q6600, 2gb ram (2 1gb sticks), 8800gtx, 3 sata drives & 2 dvd drives.

cheers, :)
