Imitation Samurai swords too be banned!!

As someone who collects swords, this is yet another stupid piece of pointless legislation designed to pander to the emotional masses rather than being based on anything actually useful.

The vast, vast majority of people who own swords never use them for anything illegal, why should the legal majority suffer due to the actions of a tiny minority of morons who would simply replace a sword with something else...

In a free society, I should not have to justify my right to own anything, the state has to justify why I should not be allowed to own something, and actions of people unassociated with me should not have any effect on my rights.

Just like the handgun ban, this won't actually do anything to cut down on associated crime.

Exactly it's not gonna stop criminals from buying/using imitation samurai swords because they're illigal in fact I reckon it'll promote their use as lil chavs who will eventually become criminals(If they aren't already) will think Now that they're illigal i gotta get me one o them so's i can get + respect from my fellow Chavs.

I have a rather nice Ninjato that I've had for the best part of 15 years now, only damage I've ever done with it was to myself - nearly took my finger off when cleaning it.

Government want me to give it up? They can go take a long walk off a short plank.

If it's a battle ready one and not a bad quality display one they won't be able to take it from you

Mine aren't imitations nor copies, so does this mean that mine are safe from the thieving politically correct thought police?

Least you have sense to own the real thing. imo the imitation swords should be subject to the same laws as counterfeit clothing etc

The thing is the "imitation" sword they're on about are the cheapo display swords you can get. A Battle-ready "Imitation" of say an ancient Katana which'll prolly cost in the area of £500-£1500 are not the sort of thing they're on about. The term imitation is not specific enough and people are gonna get confused.

Hmm.... surely this is more just nanny State Britain? I'm all for protecting people etc, but where do you draw the line. Ban Kitchen Knives as said? What about Power Tools and Chainsaws? I could walk into just about any garage in the UK and probably find some lethal "weapon" so as to do harm with. Difficult. I guess an imitation sword can only really be bought for one of two things though...admiring it or "using" it in some which way which is the key point.

Good point, I realise there's craftsman out there that want to preserve the traditions of sword making but there are also makers out there who make them solely to be sold to senseless people like chavs. There's really no reason for the cheaper imitations to exist and those that want to own "real" hand made imitations should be allowed as long as they have a license.

What a load of rubbish.

As has no doubt been said a dozen times already, if someone intended harm to another, the lack of a sword is not going to be an issue. I am sure far more people are seriously injured or killed just by getting a kicking, never mind using a weapon.

As for jail time, that's a joke. By next year you could probably get away with Community Service for Murder.

What a load of [insert rude word here]

wow 80 out of about 1,000,000 assaults involved swords quick ban them, baning them will have no effect at all.

its hard to find stats but in 2004/5 there were 48 serious assaults involving guns in scotland and about 5-6% of homicides were gun related. So its safe to say that guns are still worse than swords.

30% of homicides 2004/5 involved a sharp weapon thats about 229 deaths so the 5 caused by swords is nothing, the real question is why are the government going after swords.

i wonder how many deaths a year involve axes, or other unnecessary sharp things.

Just a suspended sentence for trying to kill babies now :)

Sorry, but if they want my swords, they're going to have to be willing to lose a few limbs beforehand.

Edit: Especially as they're part of my Zombie plan.
