from 2 to 4 gigs, will I lose performance?

Hi,

I remember when I went from 1gig to 2 gig with my old rig ( 64 3200+,6800le,1gig) and I lost a few fps in source stress test and 3d mark.

If I go from 2 gig to 4 gig, will I lose a lot?

some games have been crashing with me, with an "running out of virtual memory" error, and crysis tends to use 1200mb, and this Hl2 e2 mod needs 3 gig to run properly.

Ram is so cheap, so I wanna buy new ram. How much performance would i lose to get 4 gig?

I doubt you would lose any performance but you would stand to gain going upto 4gb.

It depends on the the chipset and processor as to if having four sticks effects the speed. Some older AMD systems reduced your timings and also the ddr speed. With the board and processor you have, you should not really notice any great difference. The more ram, the morea ddress space it has to talk to and harder to find the data, so a little may be lost. Its worth it though, as game these days are quite demanding on memory so this would decrease disk access.

You would have to run the 4-4-4-12 at the slower timings, as the other 2Gb is the weaker link basically.
