I was looking at those figures before, they're on an anti-gun website. I believe that the figures given are accurate, however the conclusions drawn are somewhat shaky at best :) Like I've said, both sides are as bad as each other for propaganda.

By shot to death i meant with any gun, 42 percent of those where with handguns.

Don't you know they turn you into crazed killers. This is the trouble with current politics. Popular opinion wins. Popular opinions is 99% made of emotions and not facts. The government is meant to side with minorities as well as the majority. One of the things it should be doing is making laws on facts not emotions.

Not at all, our argument is that the murders will still take place just with a different item (be it handguns or swords that are being banned)... making the ban a completely pointless act.

No it's not sensible it's emotional.
So some nutter kills a few people. The gun clubs even advised the police he shouldn't have a license.

A few killings is not worthy or just to ban the entire sport. Especially when alternative laws could have been used. But yet again Labour pandered to the emotional public.

what's insulting about fail boat, you asked me for my source accused me of making it up, when it was where you got your info from.

also no the ban was to stop murders with guns not just rampages, and if it was just to stop a dunblane why ban hand guns when he used an ak47 for most of it?

So why ban swords, when was the last sword massacre?

Also it seams the most bloody massacre (35) was committed with a stolen and hence illegal gun even though your "facts" list it as legal, with only a little small print to explain.

with the amount of gun crime involving kids recently its only a matter of time before one of these young phycos takes his gun to school and starts a killing spree.

We don't know what the homicide rate would have been had handguns not been banned. Remember that in the last 10 years we've seen a massive increase in immigration and liberal policing practices such as abolishing stop-and-search, which I would suggest is responsible for a large slice of the increased homicide rate. It's no coincidence that since the police have started stopping and searching again the homicide rate has fallen.

As has already been said, the purpose of the handgun ban wasn't to stop criminal related activity - even if handguns were legal, it'd be a foolish crim that used a legal one to kill someone. The purpose of said legislation was to stop the massacres like Hungerford and Dunblane - we can't know for sure if it's worked, but so far so good. Since Columbine school massacres have grown in popularity around the world, so it's a good thing imo that depressed, bullied, screwed up teenagers don't have access to guns in this country.
 
Personally I can't see why anyone would want these things but a ban seems a bit overkill

It's not as if you can go out at night with one concealed on you like you could with a regular knife, if a nutter can't get one of these he will find something else
