While we're at it I'd like to see the age of consent raised to 18 or 21 too.![]()
What the heck is going on with all the anti-freedom of choice people in this thread this morning?

And the age of consent is 16 btw

I agreed with this sort of statement vehemently for a long time, but suddenly I've realised that it's not that simple. Until we educate the next generation properly, the current generation is going to be full of retards.
I'm all for making life for those retards as difficult as possible, even if I have to make a couple of minor sacrifices.

We need to take the mystery out of having a drink, as much as I hate the french they way they control alcohol is good, education is the long term solution but like lots of other problems the short term sticking plaster approach is the one that will be adopted.
How's this generation different from the last one?
Hell... at least we're not quite as promiscuous and drugged up as what I am guessing is your generation from the 60s

I didn't say this generation was different to the last one, what I said is that this one is stupid and that each generation will continue to be stupid until education and parenting improve. How's this generation different from the last one?

When people raise their kids properly then I will have no quarrel with lowering or even abolishing things like the age of consent or legal drinking age. Unfortunately I'm asking way too much here, it'll take a miracle to get rid of the idiocy, bad parenting and bad education in our culture. To be fair, I can see the sense in raising it to 18 and to "adulthood" - but like the other things, I think making things more 'taboo' for longer will just make the situation worse... basic freedoms will be taken away.
but until such a day as we 'evolve' beyond the need for substances which only destroy
So the magic number 21 means people have suddenly matured?
The reason there is less of a drink problem with people 21+ at the minute... is because the majority of people have drunk so much 18-21 that they're pretty much fed up of it by then & don't drink so much.

Bingo, and that lack of education produces bad future parents. Endless cycle of idiocy.in essence it is just more education we need, things like this get pushed to the back shelf, it's a taboo subject, and of course our inquisitive nature leads us to experiment.
I would back raising the drinking age to 21. I would also back banning drinking and smoking, in the grand scheme of things there is no real need for either of them.
The problem of the UK drink culture has nothing to do with the age limit required to buy alcohol and everything to do with the notion that everytime you have a drink you need to get wasted.

That simply isn't true, there are plenty medical studies showing the health benefits of alcohol.
It's about choice mate, and personal freedom. You could not ban drinking in this country, it would be next to impossible. Many of the working class get through the day knowing they can go to the pub at the end of the day and sit for a pint with their mates, and you have no right to take that away from them. To say otherwise is complete nonsense.
