Poland & tolerance to english/foreigners

A friend recently went over there by himself, and he said they were the most friendly people he'd ever met.

At one point, he was out on his own at night when he asked two Polish girls for the time. Not only did he get the time, they took him to a bar and bought him drinks. :)

I also had a Polish friend in College a couple of years back and she was extremely friendly, as was the Polish guy I met in China who slept on (and broke :p) my 'wooden' sofa. It's all good. Chill and enjoy. :)

My Uncle now lives over there and i believe hes gettin married to a Polish girl named Kasia :)

My family have been over severl times (warsaw i think) and they enjoyed every minute.

According to my Polish friend/co-worker Pawel, the police are VERY strict over there, and its REALLY easy to get put into prison (usually shorter stints).

Thats with the Polish people though, im all honest i don't really know their tolerances for Foreigners, i could imaging them to be one of two depending on who you see.. 1) nice and friendly or 2) hostile and wanting a fight (men)

I was talking to a girl the other day who told me that if you're walking down the street and look even slightly drunk that the police will lock you up for the night and charge you (money, not time) for the privelige (sp?) the next day.

Have a couple of days out in Slough and see how you get on before venturing over :D

*Generic 'oi some of us still have to live here' reply* :p

The Polish here are a nice bunch. Chavs are the real issue.

The only problem I see is a lot of Polish are strongly Christian, so can get offended by tonsil tennis in the street, kissing etc. outside of marriage and so on.

Never heard anything of the sort, seems a bit odd if you ask me.

Unless you wander round with a Union flag draped over your shoulder how will most people know your British anyway?

Just behave yourself and respect their laws and culture.....I've travelled round a lot of Europe and beyond and never felt any ill feeling for being English.

I always wonder why the word "tolerance" is used when talking about this stuff. I mean if you aren't racist why would you need to be tolerable, there is nothing to tolerate. And if they are doing something that an English person wouldn't get away with then we shouldn't bloody tolerate it so why tolerance?

Like anywhere it depends on the place you go. If you go to Warsaw or Krakow people will be open-minded and not care, though if you go further out or into the minor cities it would be sniffed at. I know loads of Polish people, they're all nice.

And they like metal \m/ :p

I think it simply comes down to translation, it's the closest word she could get for what she was trying to say, she speaks reasonably good english but still a few gaps in the vocabulary.

My girlfriend is Polish and i've been over there 6 times now and every time it has been a pleasent visit. Never had a single problem, thats being in bars, walking around town/cities and just behaving my normal self. Go for it mate, it's great over there and you'll really enjoy it and more than likely enjoy a (very) white christmas :)!

When i was over last Christmas i was very unlucky and told that it was very strange as it hadn't snowed that year as much as it should. However, i'm going on the 22nd to spend Christmas with her family and have been promised plenty of!

That makes it all the more worthwhile, I love the snow and haven't seen a decent snowfall in this country since I was about 10.

Which part are you going to?

I love snow as well and it's something i am really looking forward to. I live in Blackpool and the only snow we see is in photos :p.

I'm going to a small town/village called Wodzislaw Slaski, which is about 2 hours drive from Katowice airport.
