Hey
I'm thinking of getting a dual shock 3 for Christmas and am just wondering what you think would look best - the black or ceramic white version? Also, in what way are the new thumb sticks more accurate?

Black. And order quick if you want it before xmas!! And don't pay more than £37 or you are doing something wrong.

Get a black DS3! White controllers are for girls and mac lovers (Ino) lol.
One advantage of a white one is that you will know straight away its the DS3 and dont have to pick it up to find out. Wish they had changed the stick colour though.

Oi!!!

I love my macs but don't have a white one! :p

Shame i missed my delivery on Friday, have to wait till monday to pick mine up!

Unless you have a white 360 controller :o

BTW, back to the other question - So does aiming feel more precise? Also is it true the triggers need more pressure?

I got a white one so I could see quickly at a glance which was the DS3 and which was the SIXAXIS.

I found on the SIXAXIS that you generally have to move the sticks about 3/4 way of their travel distance before whatever you controlled on screen responded. With the DS3, a slight nudge, like the 360's pad, is enough.

My personal opinion is that the triggers are identical, but they are stiffer like all controllers when they are new so people are confused.

The aiming I am unsure about, in COD4 I notice a slight difference, in Uncharted I don't and in SuperStardust I don't.

I have no doubt the sticks have changed somewhat, but part of it is masked by the fact the sticks feel different compared to a "used" older controller and also a placebo affect ;)

This baffles me, my original sixaxis I nudge even the tiniest amount in super stardust and the ship moves

is it possible I have a "good" sixaxis hence am not noticing the differences as much? I cannot believe that everyone has a controller that needs nudging 3/4 way through. If it was then I understand the criticisms, but mine and others I have tried do not need moving that much. Can you give an example of a game? I don't disbelieve you (I have no reason to), but I don't think it should be 3/4 movement else everyone should be complaining!!!

Both my sixaxis controllers don't suffer from any problems.

Maybe i am just lucky...Twice.

Josh

The fact that your Planet Earth blu-ray was buggered and you missed your DS3 delivery cancels out your good luck (twice), and now the universe is in balance again.

There's a 'deadzone' on the analog sticks that are very severe in a lot of games - Warhawk for example feels heavy when you aim mainly due to deadzone. Other games like Uncharted are very speedy and responsive. It's also to do with the speed of turning for the amount of nudge you push. The 360's sticks don't need to be nudged as much as the PS3's sticks do to reach the fastest turning point. This is not necessarilyy good or bad, just a defining characteristic, and as I said earlier, PS3 software developers can compensate. Warhawk doesn't compensate for deadzone, Uncharted does. Try the aiming on both, you will certainly feel a difference.

I will certainly try Warhawk (one of my fave games, that I have not played since getting the DS3). What you explain is what I have suspected (I have never had a big enough problem to look it up myself) In that some games have software to compensate (makes no difference to end user).

So based on your description there is more "levels" of movement you can perform on the ps3 pad, in that after a certain point of no return the 360 pad goes into "left/right lock" whereas reaching this point is harder/more sensitive on the ps3. (the word Deadzone implies the opposite to me, I would assume it meant there is a range of movement say between 3/5 left and 4/5th left where in game there is no difference in movement speed)

I can see how this could be good and bad in various different types of games. In a racing game I like to make subtle movements and in Stardust, but in other games where you want to turn very fast it would hinder you.

I have had my DS3 for 3 weeks and have genuinely not notcied as many differences as other's imply, I keep meaning to do tests, just for my own sanity more than anything else!!!

Does this mean I will be "better" at Warhawk after initially adjusting to the new controller :)

Probably! I did hear it's more sensitive on the new DS3 pads. I personally never had a problem with it in the first place although I've seen plenty of people say they'd like it a tad more sensitive.

I suppose.

Can't wait to get my hands on my DS3. Will give me something to look forward to.

Rumour is that the black controllers have faster response times due to them being manufactured by a different company, the company (cant remember the name) uses faster bus rate data lines between the chip in the controller itself.
Just a heads up incase you wanted to get pro :)

My DS3 should be here before Christmas, although I can't see it coming.. that's my sort of luck
