Who will/should the England football captain be?

Exactly what I was thinking, aside from a bit of ref bullying which many players are guilty of I can't think of anything he's done.

IMHO, it's disgusting behaviour.

Of them all, I'd choose Stevie Geraaaaaad, but then I don't watch football at a club level.

I think Terry should remain captain, he has the right temperament, gives 100% and is pretty vocal at times as well.

One other problem with having JT as captain is that it basically says he is near to un-droppable.
He's good. Perhaps very good. But not great and I think when certain other players are fit or have that little bit of experience, there is a big doubt as to whether he should play.

Gerrard is a diver don't want a moaning diver as captain.
Only one man for the job and that man is The crouchster never complains just gets on with his job and gets goals.
Actually should be John Terry

The right temprament?! You are kidding?
This is the same guy who goes parading an entire team around, swearing at referees and players, throwing elbows in tackles and has little respect for anyone or anything.

Captain should be Ferdinand or Gerrard.

Gerrard for me, like I said before it's very hard for me to say this, is everything a professional should be. He lives only 10 mins away from where I live and there isn't as many stories going around about him as there used to be about 5 years ago when he lived on the Southport promanade.

Ok, he did knock a kid over who supported Man Utd not so long ago, but it was the kids fault and he did go visit him in hospital and gave him a shirt and signed boots (not much use to a Man Utd fan like, suppose the kid could make a nice warm fire in this cold weather)

I just think if Gerrard can get his act together, and the Frank or Steve thing is sorted (I think Capello will sort this one out and wouldn't be surprised that Lampard never plays with Gerrard again) then I reckon he would be the play every looks to when say the team is 1-0 down, or really struggling to break a team down, or if the team is sitting too far back with a lead. I really think a central midfield player with all Gerrards characteristics would be 100% perfect for the England team.

Plus John Terry is a thug, acts like a petulant child and just has an aura of smugness about him all the time. All he has going for him is his braveness and big bleedin mouth.

Rooney. Only player I would bet money on being in Capello's first 11. Age on his side too, the world cup is three years away don't forget.

There is no choice other than Terry. I'm hoping with a decent manager Terry will be able to lead as he should and has tried to.

I agree that Capello might not play Gerrard with Lampard due to the press and the fans not understanding their roles in the team, so giving Gerrard the armband doesn't make any sense at all.

lol

Rooneys passion is right, but the way he handles himself leads me to believe he's not ready for it. Maybe in the nexy few years or even World Cup, but right now I wouldn't say so.
Plus, if his performance on Wednesday is anything to go by, keep it well enough away from him!

Not sure what Terry's done to **** off so many people

Ref bullying, poor perfomances, no leadership, looks like a first division player in a England shirt, captained the worst performing England side in living memory.

Shall i go on?

On Gerrards performances this campaign he shouldnt be in the side let alone Captain.

The best thing about him is he'll stick up for his team mates and he won't be rolled over. He won't go missing in games and he'll keep giving what he's got.

Oh, and he's the best centre half we have.

That is garbage.
He has been one of the worst players for england since he pulled the shirt on.
He has been been done time and time again with his poor positioning and lack of pace.
You can get away without one or the other but not both.

He really isn't the best CB we have. Ferdinand has consistently performed at a higher level for England and has done at Club level for the last season and a half.

Ferdinand relies all too much on the guy alongside him.

Vidic is a monster and suits Ferdinand's game. Thats why he's playing well. He needs Terry to do that job for England so he can play.

Ferdinand gives the ball away too much to be the better player IMO.

I agree with Gilly. You need a ball player and a shot stopper to make a good defensive pairing. Ferdinand's a much better footballer but Terry's a much better defender and I don't think they'd play as well without each other as they do with.

As far as I'm concerned Englands defensive problems have been caused by the mute playing behind them. They've looked a mess at times and until we get a keeper that's not afraid to shout out instructions and help them out neither will look as good at International level as they do playing for their clubs.

lol oh dear...
Ferdinand has been awesome for most of his career.
He only really struggled when playing with micky silveste, who lets face it, is simply terrible. He's better on the ball than pretty much any English defender and reads the game perhaps the best too.
Terry's a row Z kinda defender, lots of aggression, not so much talent. Theres nothing wrong with that, it can be effective. But he isn't in the same league as the very best.
