Any games use more that 2GB yet?

I dont get that, vista only uses 50mb more then xp so it must have really crap memory management to NEED 4GB over XP's 2GB.

Hey ebilcake, Windows Vista's memory management is a lot better to that of Windows XP's memory management. You do not need 4GB of RAM for Windows Vista, it runs perfectly fine on 1GB and brilliantly on 2GB of RAM. If you have the money to purchase 4GB of RAM, Windows Vista will take advantage of it. :)

Hey megatron, any reason why you say that? :)

I know it doesnt really need it, I've tested it allot myself but people keep saying it and it's strange because of the fact vista only uses 50MB more just for the OS then XP. :)

I dont agree with statement above, nevermind Games, Vista runs crap on 1GB of Memory, 2GB is ideally the Min and the sweet spot is 4GB. (my opinopns and many others, jsut goolge "Vista 4GB+sweet spot" and try find good MS sites not THG etc)

Having tested it since Alpha they have sorted Memory Leaks in sidebar etc but Vista64 Ultimate with a fully loaded Sidebar full of Tools and all the eyecandy on+ AV + other Processes (70 in my case typing this in IE with music playing so 68 at idle) uses a lot of Memory.

Vista runs so much better for me with 4GB over 2GB esp since SP1-RC made it more responsive esp over the SP1 Beta.

There is no real excuse as Memory is so cheap.

I dont know how anyone can run Vista Starvin Marvin edition, beats me.

Hey helmutcheese, it would all depend on what the system would mainly be used for. If it's for basic office work, surfing the internet etc, then I would honestly have to say that 1GB of RAM is absolutely fine. :)

2GB is ideally the Min

If you are into playing games then I would agree with you most defiantly. :)

and the sweet spot is 4GB.

I would also partially agree with you their helmutcheese, 4GB of RAM is the sweet spot but certainly not required and games are perfectly playable on 2GB of RAM. As you have quite rightly said before though, it would also depend on the resolution and the settings that the user plays games at. :)

Completely agree, it's phenomenal at the price of DDR2 memory at the moment. :)

Initially, Vista was a memory hog, but with the release of some Performance and Reliability hotfixes, the memory usage was brought down dramatically. Are all posters here who are on Vista aware of this?

I have all the games I want at the moment, latest ones are Quake Wars, Team Fortress 2, and Unreal 3. To the best of my knowledge, none goes over 2 Gig on Vista Home Premium. How is everyone checking? Just Task Manager when the game is running?

im 100% sure that BF2 has huge performance increase with 3gb or 4gb ram over 2gig. as in my clan ive heard this statement from 4-5 people, when they upgraded.. however this may be the PR mod only. but its the same engine so prob just all BF2

I know the Project Reality mod for BF2 definitely uses more RAM than normal BF2. I'd guess more than 2Gb helps that mod

I'd actually say 3Gb is the sweet spot right now, no games i've tested benefit from 2-4GB even in vista, only noticable difference was it exited to desktop faster, big whoop.

Aware of it, sure I get it before msot as I am a tester.

Still uses more memory than XP esp Ultimate and all eye candy and sidebar.

If I was using Vista 64 I'd definitely get 4Gb anyway with these crazy low prices.
I see the 2Bg Geil is at £37 now. 12 months ago I bought exactly the same stuff for £180!!

I ran into 85% used of 4gb today with sup com, about 2 hours into a 5 way skirmish.
Rig in sig with a 2407 + vx924 both in use, game settings on max.
