8800GTS 512MB Ramblings Thread

yeah its not much to write home about tbh

all it is is an adaptor for the TV in port to enable you to use composite (crap) or Svideo (again crap) inputs

DVI >> VGA or DVI >> HDMI is all you should consider for TVs, unless you've got a really old CRT tv, but then if you have one of them, why even bother ?

is it component ? i must admit i just glanced and assumed it was composite

but it doesnt matter, if your going to be plugging in your pc to your HD TV, you're going to use the DVI port ,or use a DVI to VGA or DVI to HDMI plug, not the component. So its kinda pointless.

Maybe, but if like me you run a dual monitor setup (ie all dvi outputs are used) but like running a game on a huge widescreen TV once in a while, having a HDTV component output from a GFX card which provides a native resolution is really useful.

Also I bet there are many people that have an LCD TV with all the HDMI inputs in use. Its easily done, my HTPC uses the D-Sub input, PS3 uses one HDMI input and up scaling DVD player the second one. So being able to run a 720p output from my main pc without using up a HDMI or D-sub analogue input is very very useful!

Got a PNY one this afternoon. Light and day between my old 7300GT lol

Nothing in package other than plain nvidia reference card with PNY backplate, VGA adapter, composite connectors on an external cable, driver and manual.

I'm impressed so far, not that hard after what I was using. :p

Just ordered a Gigabyte 8800GTS 512.
Was originally going to order an INNO3D 8800GT OC as it wasn't far off the clocks of these as standard and it was very cheap, however in between me placing an order and them going to check if they had any they'd all sold >.<

Seeing as I was frustrated that I'd missed out on the other card by what feels like moments, seeing as I actually had the cash available, I decided to spend the extra on the 8800GTS. It's not much faster, but I was always apprehensive about noise and the fan on the 8800GTs and I'd be hearing due to heat, some of them had been having rather high RMA rates, given this, as I'd like to use the card for a couple of years Im not too unhappy about spending extra on the fan, as I'd have possibly ended up shelling out for a better cooler on the 8800GT to feel safe, whereas this is already taken care of on the GTS.

Although I was tempted by the GTX, as I like to game now at 1920x1200, I'd rather sacrifice a little bit of high end AA for the reduction in temperatures, size and power usage.
Should be a nice upgrade from the X1900XT I sold a few days ago, especially when I complete my new system build in about a month, I'll be a bit gutted if it won't run with my current PSU though, and I have to wait til the upgrade to be able to use it!

Sorted, thanks!

Got it running at 800/2010/1100(Core/Shader/Memory)
Idle at 46c (60% Fan)

Can't get any higher without errors, tempted to use my EK88GT block to see if I can get it any higher!

15804 3DMark06 highest I've got so far, want at least over 16k when I sort my cooling out next week. CPU is Q6600 @ 3600mhz (1.48v) and 4GB Ram @ 5:6 960mhz (4-4-4-12)

Using Vista 64bit Hesky

Didn't realise that 15804 was quite high, thought it was a low score for my setup!
Hopefully watercooling the GPU will get me near the top spot on the OCUK 3DMark Quad Core / Single card table :)

Gigabyte 8800GTS 512

Just RMA'ed a Gainward 8800gt for the same problems as others (screen corruption and crashing in all games temps never above 73) and fitted Gigabyte 8800gts 512.
What a difference faster quieter and solid as a rock. Get one.

Playing COD4 with all turned on @1680/1050 45/60 fps!!
could'nt ask for more.

AMDx2/4200 oc 2.4Gg 2 gig ram Corsair 620 psu

Anyway, what are the latest vista-64 drivers for this card ?
And if not the latest, which one are people favoring ?

Thanks

Has anyone bought the Leadtek one as advertised on ocuk. Queried the clock speed on this card as the summary speeds compared to the actual specifications are different? Can someone who got the card confirm?

Cheers

EDIT - It ok Ocuk has corrected the page :D
