'Make Me A Muslim' - More Channel 4 Dross

looks and sounds like a heads-up thread  would appreciate this rule actually being in the FAQ.... otherwise its just individual Don bias closing at whim, is it not? my last thread on the 1st program in this series wasnt just a heads-up for something coming on...it was about discussing an interesting topic....

Same as the footie threads they're just heads up for the game thats coming on..or are they about talking about it? They are done in exactly the same way...posted just prior to the game coming on.
(hopefully this wont be all edited out)

what i find most concerning is that moderate muslims are never portrayed, hence perpetuating the cycle of muslims as fundamentalists by type.

haven't watched this one mind so maybe....

The Imam featured seems moderate enough. In fact, some commentators are even saying its an advertisement for Islam.

That's very intresting, what made you worship her? You are being serious I assume?

Yes I am being serious.

Selene represents the most beautiful woman, yet is at the same time cold and distant. However, she always returns to see me and although I can chase her I will never catch her yet I love her still.

She is my companion when I am out and I can ascend high to sit and watch her beauty.

Fundamentally it is the cycle of the Horned God (the sun) chasing the Goddess (the moon)

Begoe was my patron deity when I was younger and more angry!

That sounds so romantic! :) Wow. Do you have any more links? I would be interested to read more. :)

Well, it would be very boring if it only contained people who couln't care less now, wouldn't it? I think the fact that they chose extreme people makes for a fascinating doc.
Well:

Tonight on Channel Four...

We put 5 GAY men in the ring with 5 BORN AGAIN STRICT CHRISTIANS...

watch as the madness unfolds, enjoy the conflict of these groups and to top it off.... ONE OF THE GAY MEN IS A MUSLIM, and one of the Christians is a TRANSEXUAL.

ONLY ON CHANNEL FOUR....

....PAY PER VIIIIIIIIIIIIEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW....
Not exactly true or fair :p but I don't seem to think its too far from channel fours mentality.

Of course the people in the programme were volunteers, but they clearly were not commited to the cause. For the first week we watched as a man continued to eat pork and visit a lap dancing bar, then watched the frustration on a Muslim's face when he told him his unislamic actions. We get to watch a glamour model (who poses in underwear)... complain about dressing like an appropriate muslim, and a very camp gay man moan at just about everything....

It was far an intelligent spin on the subject.

It is a difficult thing to provide links to as my beliefs are very individualistic.

However for background reading I suggest the following:

Neopaganism
Wicca and Divinity

I worship the Goddess in all her different forms over the God as I feel more comfortable with her but do not go as far as those who follow Dianic Wicca and exclude the God altogether. Although like I said it is very individual and I don't follow the tenants of Wicca exactly as I have multiple Gods and Goddesses rather than the two.

Combine this with my deep love of nature, especially wild and remote mountainous places and you can see how I just became Pagan without thinking about it.

This isn't something I normally talk about.

I'm going to have a look at those links, thank you :)

Thank you for talking about it, it's appreciated as I find it intriguing.

So what kind of things do you do to express your praise towards the goddess? I'm curious too.

Well it's not like a Christians or Muslims relationship with their God that's for sure.

Mostly it involves the major celebrations of the Wheel of the Year and at other times I go and visit the Old Gods in the places where they are closest such as the mountains of Wales or in a remote seaside cove. Here I can hear them and they can hear me better than the crowded cities.

Seeing as this isn't always possible I often pop outside when the moon is out late at night or early in the morning and have a nice private chat with Selene, you know tell her how things are going and ask for her help. Sometimes I get cross at her and call her a few names but I can't stay mad at her for long. Best not to have a Goddess mad at you! ;)

More reading!

Sorry, I know we have veered off the subject here, but LordSplodge - if I said Locko Park, would you have any idea what I was talking about?

I have those links open now and will bookmark, thank you :)

What made you choose your religion? If you don't mind me asking.

Like I said I kind of just became a Pagan. I was one before I knew what one was!

I "found my path" as it was when I started University in 1997. At the Freshers Fair there was a stand for DeMontfort University Pagan Society.

The rest as they say is history. I keep meaning to get in touch with The Derbyshire Pagan Society but life is so busy at the moment I keep putting it off. It is always nice to have fellow believers to talk to as both my wife and my cat think I am mad. :p
