Do you have a link to where it says that in the bible please? I'd be curious to know as well.

I know in Leviticus it says:

11:7 And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven-footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you.

11:8 Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you.

I'd be interested to know what the new testament says :) the above is taken from the king james version of the bible, which all the christians that I know, claim to believe/follow.
 
I really don't get the whole not eating pork thing. In the past it made sense I suppose. But in the modern world pigs are no more unclean than any other animal that muslims and jews are allowed to eat.

However this is open to interpretation about the washing of utensils etc before, also ( I sought of remember this one, but think it was a lesson about acceptance) peter had a vision in which he saw many animals that where unclean and god told him to eat them, but he refused 3 times then the sheet when back to heaven but again this is open to interpretation.

there's also a few passages that say if your a guest eat what is offered and d not ask questions of conscience (about if the law allows it not about the food entirely) but you mustn't eat food that is a declared sacrifice, also you may eat anything at a market (ecept sacrifice)

WEll they where declared witches and sourccers(sp) in the past for not getting ill like the rest of the people that ate the unclean meats, so its served them well in the past (although not the whole sorcery thing ) also it is the word of god and not subject to change.

Can you spec me three books to learn everything about Paganism? I'm a pagan myself but I don't fully understand the perspectives of others on it, only my own impressions.

Hum :rolleyes: in what way are they filthy? I never understood all this. I was led to understand that they were actually quite clean animals - they don't crap where they eat for example...

My great nan had a pig as a pet when I were a wee nipper :)

I don't think the conditions have changed that much, pigs still roll around in their own waste right? It's not only to do with the outside conditions but pigs ain't changed much on the inside. The information is pretty widely available as to why pork is deemed an unhealthy meat.

Actually if you read around on the net, you will find pigs even eat excrement among many other things. It's only now on modern proper livestock farms that they are clean. I doubt that the reputation of pigs being dirty was made up.

Hum interesting. I don't eat Pork personally - nothing to do with any beliefs oddly enough, but was confused over the whole thing (when I do eat meat it's usually turkey/chicken/fish 95% of the time...) :D

But the food is clean after it's been prepared properly. I know pork isn't exactly the healthiest meat, but there are other meats that are equally as unhealthy.

If thats the case then muslims should stop eating vegetables as well because the more manure you feed them the better they grow.
 
Yeah I was a bit disappointed by the show. It really annoys me when instead of picking a good cross section of people to go in they just find the most filthy, messed up, lazy, useless individuals they can. It could have been a really interesting show but its just more "Happy Meal" TV as far as I can see. Furthermore, far from giving me a greater understanding about Islam it just made me focus on the things I did not like/understand about the faith. As far as I could tell it has so far been a pants show for "Tuscan Raiders" to get all excited about and side with the fat, bald, pervy taxi driver who's a "real British man". Channel 4 need to get a grip and start presenting their programmes with some real substance instead of presnting one reality farce after freakshow etc etc......

Great post.

The thing is an open minded, intelligent person with decent personal hygene won't generate half as much controversy as a whining ****** will do. There must be thousands of normal people who would approach an opportunity like this with an open mind and would gain so much from it. It's a shame this sort of program sells:(

No it doesn't. I don't have to pay Channel Four for the programs I decide not to watch, I am legaly required to pay the BBC, even though I don't.

Regarding the OP, face it 99% of TV nowadays is 'dross' and the mainstream media in general is nothing more than a glorified marketing tool designed to make you feel incomplete and pump you with fear and anxiety. Best thing is just not to watch it full stop.
