oh really? My parents live in Urmston, also a couple of miles from the TC :)

Yea TomTom took me straight there, it's a shame they dont do MOTs now (i asked) as my MOT runs out in January, wouldve been easier to get it all sorted there! Here's to hoping it gets through without the main cat :p (still got 2 precats)
 
RESULT!

no headgasket failure! Could've developed into one if i hadnt noticed it, im ******* at the garage who told me it was though. The water pump housing had broken internally, causing a heavy leak there where the pump was jammed. What i thought was mayo on the cap after a short journey the other day was just condensation, no such stuff there now, it's all pressure tested and gas tested fine, and a £180 repair bill instead of £700+ :D :D :D

I'm over the moon :)

What's this garage again? (Postcode?) Might start using them, sound good, need someone this way now that I've moved.

Am just down the road from Urmston, in flixton :D

Am hoping mine gets through, I have to use a 'friendly' MOT tester as I have a custom exhaust system which doesn't have a cat...

Great news on the car, saves a lot of cash not having to remove the heads!

I swear by that garage, Mike and his son Trevor are great mechanics.

Salford shopping precinct is about 5 minute walk away, and there is a cafe just over the road from the garage.

Tell them you're a mate of bry's with the astra, they'll get you a good price :D

it had, but it wasnt the water pump that failed, it was the housing that the water pump sits in.....which also had been changed, tis one of the bits i stole from the new engine as my old engines fell apart in exactly the same way :s

They're putting it through an MOT too since i can't get there to pick it up until friday, but obviously not them doing the actual testing. Hopefully they'll be quite leniant too :D
