Hi i have a budget of around £60-70 for a new motherboard, getting a quad core Q6600 to go with it. What's the best around for that price range?
If i spent £100-120 instead would i really get a lot more performance for my money?
I'm just hoping there's a decent budget motherboard around the £60 mark that will give the same level of performance as more high-end models! Do they exist? I hope so!
Many thanks.

Most of the P35 boards give about the same performance. The more expensive ones might squeeze the last few mhz out of a chip if overclocking, but their higher price is mostly for the extra components they have (more SATA ports, dual PCI-E x16 slots etc).

For around £60 the Abit IP35-E and the Gigabyte P35 DS3L will do the business. Or if you want to spend a little extra then the Gigabyte P35 DS3R is very good.

They all have atleast one PCI-E x16 slot. The more expensive boards add another for running two cards (the 2nd is actually a x4 slot).

Lee my vote would be to get the DS3R ,very good board for the money ,and really overclocks well, built 3 of them up a month ago with quads, everyone of them ran @3200 at 1.3v all with no issues since. (4X1gb 5300 Ballistix's used in all @1.9v in bios)

Try to get version 2 of the DS3R as it seems more stable (it has 8 USB's on the back plate)

I use a DS3R and it's clocked at 9X400 @3600 at 1.40v in the bios, 8+hrs prime stable, but I am on water cooling.

The only notable thing as far as Quads go is the 12-phase power regulation on the P35-DQ6, but I'm not sure that is worth the cost.

Interesting, I didn't see many boards with more than 8-Phase.

I was in the same boat as u a few weeks ago, I was keen to spend around £70 notes on a new mobo and spent a few days reading up on loads of different reviews. I've used ASUS boards the past 4-5 years and had no problems with them so I checked out their range of P35 boards and ended up with the ASUS P5K-E Wifi/AP, cost me around £90 so a little over budget but I feel the extra was money well spent.

I also had a few ABIT boards under my beady eye, they look worth a go also!
