Here’s a bit of good news!
Major mobile phone manufacturers have agreed to use a standard charging port on their future models, meaning your phone will no longer be completely debilitated just because you happen to have left your charger in the office, and you won’t have to remember to pack your charger every time you’re away from home for a couple of nights. (Assuming
you have friends who are willing and able to lend you theirs for a bit!)
Hooray!
The new technology is called microUSB, announced on January 4th 2007, as a more suitable form of USB technology for handhelds and mobile devices, and it will replace the miniUSB connectors that have been used in many smartphones and PDAs. Being a USB port it will also serve as the data input port on upcoming mobile phones.
The manufacturers involved in the agreement include Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, LG and Nokia.
