An OC 3850 vs 3870

No, the cheapest 3870 is a) faster speeds at stock, and b) will overclock WAAAAAY beyond the clocks of any 3850, the GDDR4 on the 3870's is usually good for 1300MHz (2600MHz DDR). My two are currently at 1350MHz (2700MHz DDR), and 860MHz core.

I would say that 3850 is about equal to 3870 performance....the tighter timings on the 3850 ram still allow it to perform quite well.

'cheated'

was not aware of this !!!!

They were rendering the game incorrectly to get a speed boost, but if you renamed the .exe to something else it ran correctly, but you lost about 7fps or so, but doesn't make a diff as its still faster, and its now been fixed to run correctly in later drivers.

I don't see why you shouldn't get the GT. The 8800GT now has the same image quality as the 3870 in Crysis with better performance. The driver issues were sorted ages ago.

8800GT is no doubt a much better card....it's also more expensive but worth the $$ if you can afford it IMO

mcw60 ...and it's no longer clocked at 1ghz...I just did that on a suicide run. I run 1.4v daily at 840mhz

Oh gurusan, I was almost considering getting the 3850's until you said that (as my 3870 PCS order, isn't even in stock anywhere :( ). Damn RMA, should have just kept the 3870 they originally sent.
