Should we ban slow things on the road in the morning rush hour?

This morning I was travelling through Windsor at a decent speed, not to much traffic and then got caught up by a group of riders on horses. Of course everyone did the decent thing and slowed right down, tried not to startle the horses etc but the tail back was huge. Morning rush hour, over a roundabout and past a couple of schools it was causing chaos.

Now I don't mean to rant, I always set of early because these kind of things happen quite often so I could just sit there listening to the radio with no risk of being late but wow those horses managed to jam things up.

Now we all have a joke now and then that pensioners should be banned between the hours of 8am and 9am because they go slow and jam up the roads however I often run into slow moving traffic on my way into work. For example often it will be a tractor, or a lorry trying to climb some of the steep inclines, once it was a lorry carrying a tank of some description. Should 'slow' road users be banned in the rush hour?

My opinion is no, because everyone is entitled to use the road freely, but what do you all thing?

(A simple yes/no poll would be nice if you could Dons).

You can't really ban them, but it would be much better if horses and tractors (and cyclists to some extent) were to use their heads and avoid the roads when they know everyone is in a rush.

I think farm animals and farm vehicles should be banned from the hours of 7am to 9am and from 4pm to 6pm Mon-Fri. I always get stuck behind something going to work, and with no real overtake points it can either take me 40mins or 120mins to get to work.

Need to get rid of the buses in rush hour too, constantly blocking the road every few hundred metres, nightmare.

Yeah, sounds a bit ridiculous to be taking horses out on the roads during rush hour... Horsebox or alternatively waiting would have been the best option, paying road tax would be good also, ruddy horses!

Edit: To actually answer the question...
I don't have a problem with slow-ish vehicles on the road, happen to meet a JCB on the dual-carriageway in the morning, look forward to an extra 15 minutes driving time... Still, it's a vehicle and it's trying to get somewhere.

Animals? That's ridiculous, especially given the chance that they can be "spooked" by the evil cars actually using the road (how dare they!)

No, slow vehicles should not be banned on the road in morning rush hour. Animals, they should be, they're unpredictable and extremely slow.

I try and travel before the rush hour, both to and from work, to avoid such jams and reduce congestion for those with no choice from their work. Everyone who can avoid travelling at rush hour (whether non urgent or flexible) should do so. Banning would be unworkable, but I appreciate the feeling.

I think tractors and anything that can't travel over about 5mph should be banned in peak times.

Down here in oooohhh-aaaaaarrrrr Cornwall we have loads of tractors, cruising on the dual carrage way at like 25-30mph and doing less than that on the B roads. It's VERY dangerous imo, and not to mention annoying in peak hours.

Oh and VW vans, I hate them.... slow/noisy and driven by losers :D

Yeah, but a farmer may need to drive his tractor on the road to do his job and earn his living. No horses NEED to be taken on the road except in a transporter.

Don't need to be banned just need a complete overhaul of our road system and a change in tactics.

But no government has the balls as it would run into 100's of billions.

horses will walk faster than the traffic in rush hour here !

from my house to boro town ( bit over 2miles ish ) i could probably walk as quick :/

Ok, I need to go to work to earn a living... i'll drive at 30mph and we'll see how you react driving behind me :)

Arctics must stay in the inside lane between 7am-9am & 430pm - 630pm would please me no end.

I know why they e-v-e-r s-o s-l-o-w-l-y overtake each other, but I don't think they should do it at rush hour. The queue it causes in the outside lane is just annoying.

I have to go past 2 schools and also a lorry depot... You don't realise how annoying mothers dropping children off and cruising home can be.

I can only overtake in two places, both of which are high traffic areas with fast oncoming bends. I usually get away with it, but wouldn't have to if people drove at 60mph, rather than cruise at 40mph.

Usually adds 20mins to my drive with said persons in front.

If I take the A34 to work, usually ends up with lorries overtaking each other for 3 miles...which again adds another 5-10 mins to the journey. Surely if they kept all heavy vehicles to the 1st lane, vans to 1st and 2nd and cars to any of the 3 it would help the flow of traffic.

Anybody who puts his selfish needs above others (about 99% of population including myself at times) should be banned tbh!

You do 30 if you like, you'll still be held up behind the walking horse, I'll overtake you and not worry about it. Or I'll stay behind you and not worry about it. Worries me not one jot. Anyway, 30mph is quite fast when compared to a walking horse.

How about I walk in the middle of the road in front of your car and we'll see if you get fed up with it.
