Hi all.

Dad wants a new computer (hence needs to be pre built ) and after speaking to him he would like to play a few games like COD4 and HL2 as well as general desktop use.

Anyway i have put together this which is £7.76 over budget  and his requirements are monitor, mouse, keyboard and speakers. (I have a copy of vista)

Anyway i wanted to ask for any suggestions and views from people who may have the system or any of the components above.

Also had a few questions based on the titan like . . . .

Are AMD still generally better for gaming (this was the case last time i bought a pc) ?

Are the X1950 Pro's up to the job ?

Is this system very upgradable (im thinking 4GB ram and new graphics card)

What would happen if i whacked Cyrsis on ?

Thanks for any advice.

No, AMD are generally not as good as intel nowadays, especially if your overclocking.
Its probably upgradeable enough for you, though a 64bit operating system will be needed for 4gb of ram(although i doubt you'd need it).
X1950's are very good cards for the oney, but there not really to competetive against the latest offerings.

Why can't the computer be built from scratch ?? your explanation seemed to be lacking imo.

few extra quid and get a 3870, it's double the performance of the x1950 iirc
By the same logic, add a little more cash and get the 8800 gt, you could keep scrapeing together cash to go one notch ahead fora very long time though.

Quick Responses. Thanks guys.

As its going to be delivered to my dads its far more convenient to be pre-built so he can drop it in and go as i don't have the time to build it up, get it over to him and such. I realise that this limits my options but its for the best.

I also know that for £800 including monitor etc im not going to get cutting edge but all im really seeking is reassurance that i shouldn't be looking elsewhere for a pre-built and that at least for now when he loads up COD4 that it wont be a disappointment.

Also its always good to post up a system so you get the opportunity for someone to say "omg don't get that monitor its xyz, get this instead as its known to be xyz and is £10 pound less"

You will do much, much better building it yourself.

You realise its not like a marathon build right ? Its not like making a car, generally a few hours to a day at most, and can save you atleast £100 easy, not to mention tayloring the pc so its perfect for you.

Hmmm im assuming for £116 more the "Ultima 8800GT" will be a better option with one decent graphics card ?

I don't know about you but my time outside of work is precious. Paying OCUK a bit of profit to build my machine is worth every penny to me. I have far more enjoyable things to do in the evening or weekend!

Sure, I'll upgrade the odd bit, but I'll gladly pay somebody to do a full build...

you take your time, i could have a computer built in half an hour and windows installed and running in an hour:p

Yep, not forgetting the great OcUK service and technical support that comes along with every purchase. :)
