Hi,

I'm looking for get a 1:1.8 lens and I was wondering if I could say get a canon lens and use it with my Nikon d50 body?

Thanks
Andy

no.

edit, i'll elobrate. the d50 uses a Nikkor AF / F-mount, D-Type lens mount and a canon lens will fit a Canon EOS EF, EF-S mount lens mount. Companies like Sigma and Tameron will make lenses for both types of mount. They'd be the same lens, but with a different mount on them.

Short answer, no. Or yes. You'll need a adapter ring thingy. Someone who actually knows what they're talking will come along soon, i'm sure :p

you tend to loose any kind of CPU lens control with adaptor rings though. makes no sense unless you have the lens already, and get the ring for peanuts and are really bored.

Just get the 50mm f1.8 Nikon. Its about £70 or less, about the same as the Canon. I think you could get a Canon to fit and sort of work, but you'd lose autofocusing, metering etc, so not really worth it in my opinion.

Nikon AF 35mm f/2
Nikon AF 50mm f/1.8
Nikon AF 50mm f/1.4
Nikon 50mm f/1.2 Manual
Nikon AF 85mm f/1.8
Nikon AF 85mm f/1.4
Nikon AF 105mm f/2
Nikon AF 135mm f/2
Nikon AF 200mm f/2

With that selection why even bother!

Is it bad that I'm beginning to want after a Nikon body, purely because I can stick old MF lenses on it with no ghey adaptors?

I look forward to it, your work with you budget kit has always been very impressive so it will be interesting to see what a better body does for you.

Cheers. How much the IQ will improve/change I don't know. I am hoever looking forward to better ISO performance as well as more controls on the camera body. Im also getting the proper battery grip, so i'll have the luxury of a portrait orientation shutter release. :)

in reference to the OP, unless you have a realy nice MF 50mm that you want to use it's not worth it.

If you have an old Summicron or a soligor that you just "must" to use then it might be worth finding an obscure adapter.
