When selling a car, you wash it first?

The usual advice, wash & polish, take photograph & advertise your pride & joy for sale.

This chap seems unconcerned about such matters & simply lets his car speak for itself I suppose! :D

Edit: Bah! He's washed it!

Probably just doesnt care about what he gets for it, almost all my cars have come in states like that. You get a huge discount, they just want rid.

If he cant be arsed to wash it even when selling it I would be looking very carefully to check that he had maintained it properly. That said could be a bargain as some people just cant be bothered or dont have time to sell things properly.

i dont mind the outside cleaned, but i dont like the engine being steamcleaned etc i want to see what state it is really in... im not there for pretty points

The time it takes to give it even a very quick wash is about the same as checking all the tyre pressures, lights, oil and screenwash.

Considering these checks should be done at least weekly the chances of this happening if he cant even be bothered to wash it for an advert are slim to none.

Tbh honest tho many people dont bother doing that every week. Can you honestly say that every sunday you drag your other half out in to the cold to press the brake pedal to check the brake lights? I know I don't and I'm a car enthusiast. (waits for the childkiller brigade to attack!!!)

I have the luxury of reversing up to a garage every day so yeah :)

I also wash my car every week (sometimes twice if i get chance) for the time it takes there really is no other excuse than being lazy when you are selling it.

I do it daily, check oil water tyres & lights.

Over the years its saved me a few quid in prevented breakdowns not to mention pulls from the Law.

Its a mandatory requirement of my job - I simply apply the same routine to my car. :)

Its a general pain in the rear but only takes about 3 minutes tbh.

That said, sods Law then dictates that something still subsequently blows / bursts / leaks.... :o

Typical.

There's really no excuse for that, despite how "quickly" the seller wants to get rid of it.

I mean come on, how long does it take to give it a quick wash before taking pictures of it?.

And even if you cant be bothered hand washing it, a 5 minute trip to the local car wash+£5 and its squeaky clean for the pictures to be taken.

Upshot is, the seller is a lazy sod and if thats his attitude to presenting a car for sale, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole if I was looking for an M5 of that year.

In fact as soon as I opened the advert up and looked at the first pic, I wouldn't even read any further, just close it and move on to the next one for sale.

wrong. i hate washing cars, life is too short for things like ironing and washing cars, but mechanically it is tip top. its a bit dirty under the bonnet, but there are no leaks that ill have to cover-up by steam cleaning etc

I never wash my car tbh, I might do when the weather gets better.

But for example, the last car I had I never washed as long as I had it.

I do however maintain the car, don't check weekly, monthly perhaps.

Never had anything go wrong, just normal services and brakes/tyres etc...

I think I'll take more 'care' when I have a car that I can enjoy.

I think you guys are missing the point here.

Point being, the car in question is being presented for sale.

Sure, loads of folk dont particularly bother about washing their cars whilst they use/run it from day to day, but my point is if you are going to take pictures of it, put them up on the internet and hope for a sale, then why not take 20 mins out of your life to get your hands wet?.

It just defies belief.

not really, see what Jez said, owner obviously has bought a new toy, doesn't care about the old one any more and just wants it gone regardless of the price.

the pics look like they've been taken in few different places, so maybe the guy doesn't have a camera to take some nicy shiny shots for the ad and has just used pics from his archive.

or maybe it's just very suspect :)
