ATI HD 3870 X2 (R680); Official Specifications & Images

"Hi there, Id like to buy a HD3870 X2 Please"

"Certainly Sir, would you like us to deliver that on a low loader for you, or would you prefer to take it home in a limo?"

So does this mean it'll run at full x16 speed on say, a P35 board, compared to x8 bandwidth due to the 2nd PCI-E slot only running at x4?

lol, no way i'd pay £300 for one of them! £250 maybe.. £200-230 defo :)

I wonder how they'd overclock though? (not that o/c'ing is as important in a crossfire setup due to the demand for information from the cpu, and the cpu becoming the bottleneck.)

Matthew

hmm if there's that much of a price difference between the US and UK I think I'll get one of my buddies to ship me one as a "gift".

If you believe the rumours ati's next top end is going to be 4 chips on 1 board and the chips are meant to be based on the lines of the 3870's so this card maybe a good measure on how they may perform. Low end is 1 chip medium end 2 and i suppose they could go medium to high 3 then obviously highend 4. I hope they do something with the aa though as to me this is what has weakend there current line up of cards.

i remember hearing rumours that R700 will be multi GPU design, small powerful GPU`s in combinations of 4 8 and 16 depending on low mid or high end. but as always, these things are just rumours untill the proof is seen :)

Hope not, I could get 2 8800GT's for that price and I think they would give it a run for its money and probs out do it in AA.

What do they mean "Built in HDMI"? Unless I'm missing something all I can see is 2 dvi ports which is not built in hdmi

It will come with a DVI to HDMI adapter, just like the 2900 cards did.

i think if u buy two of them u would need a crossfirex ready motherboard.. maybe...

Yes you will.

Too run 4 GPUs in Crossfire you will need CrossfireX.

End of the day, if ATi manage to pull this off and bring the price into the £200 and below range, they're going to have a sure fire winner. I think this card could be ATi's 8800GT, if priced sensibly ;).

Well sub-200 range is cheapness. I would imagine it to be more in the pricerange of the GTS.....220-250 quidages
