NVIDIA will debut Geforce 9 series on valentine’s day, 2008. According to source inside NVIDIA, the first product of Geforce 9 series will be GeForce 9600 GT, aka D9P.

9600GT’s GPU is a 65nm processing chip. We already seem this tech on G92/D8P and G98/D8M. G80 and G86 have been EOLed, and G84 will also be EOL when the valentine’s day comes.

Source also tells some specs of the nex-gen GPU D9P. The core clocks at 500MHz while memory at 2000MHz, GPU will have 96SP. It is a main-stream product and only have one SLI connector so it can not support 3-Way SLI.

And here is some unconfirmed info: GeForce 9600 GT may pin-to-pin to 8800GT,that means they will use the same PCB. Also the memory will be 256bit, GPU supports DX 10.1 and ShaderModel 4.1, and the card have the same HD playback ability as G98.

Different from NVIDIA’s “hi-end unveils first” strategy, this time GeForce 9600 GT will be the first product of 9series. We are sure the product’s proformance will lower than 8800GT, and its rival will be Radeon HD 3850 and the upcoming RV635.

Looks like D9E has been pushed back from February then, wouldn't surprise me if this was down to the rumour about AMD delaying R700. It looks like I'll be keeping my 8800GT longer than expected now.

If this is true it's a little annoying. I've been putting off playing Crysis til the next gen cards come out as i wanna play it with as much eye candy as possible. Surely they must realise that the GTX is heading out and a new King of the Hill is needed!

With almost zero competition from AMD they have no incentive to spend money on production. I used to love AMD but I firmly believe they've rocked the boat in this market far too much and it's made a mess, they either need to pull their socks up or someone needs to replace them in certain areas of the graphics market.

Why would they care about 'rocking the boat' in areas of the market they're clearly not fussed about?

If it's true what everyone says about them being short on money, then it also makes perfect sense that they would go for the areas of the market where there's profit to be made, not on the area where there really isn't. :)

Looks like the 9600GT will not be far behind the 8800GT performance.

But look at the 3870X2 from ATi, if that gets out in jan/feb its possible the tables could change for a while.

What you mean zero competion if the rumours on the ati r680 are true nvidia will have more than competition in the high end and in the med to high they got competition from the 3870 which is well placed price wise to the 8800gt and in the medium and low ati are compteting well with 2600 and 2400 not to mention the 3850.

AMD obviously do give a fuss about the graphics market, even the high-end market. Look at their hype about the "Spider platform" for an example of why what you just said is way off the mark.

They've even dumped a system based around that platform on Kotaku to spread awareness.

I've been saying this for weeks now. AMD need to retreat from the high-end graphics market if they want to stay afloat, and it seems they are with the "3800 Series" not being a new series at all but just a refresh.

Actually I meant almost zero competition period. AMD graphics solutions have been utterly dire throughout 2007, and as a result Nvidia have taken more market share and their profits are up. See: This and this.

This isn't going to change unless AMD pull their socks up as right now they're Nvidia's only competition in the graphics market, by which I mean the market for dedicated graphics cards not IGPs.

So...does anyone expect these 9 series chips to give a massive jump in performance or will it be more conservative? Considering that the 7-series to 8-series was a jump from one architecture to another and this seems to simply be a second (third?) generation part.

It's a shame Intel/Nvidia don't dump one on them so they can do some benching.

Tbh a lot of nvidias share has to do with the 2900 being a shocking card from reading articles they have done better since the release of the 3870 and the lower end market has done okay but high end is where you show your technology and ati never came to the table this year.

I think the 9800 series will show performance around 2.5 times better than 8800 as they have had the time to get it right. If nvidia do that ati better come to the table with something just as good or better or they maybe in trouble.

I've basically said just that all along really.

I'm not holding my breath for R700 with the rumours of delay.

I think ati will be fine tbh if they price r680 correctly can't see 9800 being to much faster or cheaper than r680 crossfire and tbh sli just can't compete with crossfires scaling ablility atm should keep the benchmarkers happy

The future if you look at what the 2 companies are doing is aimed at multi gpu whether on 1 card or 2.

I think he's talking about SLi/Crossfire.

The future is multiple cores on one card, infact, I dont think its even that, GPU intergrated into the CPU maybe?

Yea thats correct but if they get it correct then buying a second gpu may be cheaper than buying 1 card to get the same performance as when selling you may make a loss. For me if i could get the same performance adding another 3870 i would rather do that than go through the crap of trying to sell my card losing money on it. Most motherboards i also believe will be crossfire or ati compatible so why sell your card then buy 1 faster card when you could just get another of the same and add it in. Tbh i am ****** and may change my mind on this when i am sober lol.

Not for gamers it's not, the graphics card will probably always be king for performance.

That's a flawed analogy since when the time comes to sell both of them they'll both be worthless.

It's more economical to sell your single card just before or just on the release of a new single card.
