*****THE OFFICIAL***** MASS EFFECT THREAD

^^Having to churn out one of those every (wednesday?) is taking its toll imo, mostly all he notes is stuff everyone else had observed in their reviews, yet he does it with more swearing.....the quality of these is slipping imo.
Although to his credit he does mention that most of the things which turned him off about the game will probably be a selling point to people that like RPGs.

I think he is also wrong that it wont convert those of us that were not big on RPG gaming before, certainly turned me.

He slates it, but you cant argue with the points he makes.

But as he points out, he's not an RPG fan, so he wasn't going to like it. If you are, then you can dismiss his review.

Can anyone think of a better build for my infiltrator/operative?

Only thing im really not sure of is whether i should pick up sniper rifles or the shotgun skill, infiltrator gets a small bonus to the sniper cooldown as it is but its not really enough to persuade me. Havent really had much difficulty in this playthrough(other than the krogan on the dig site mission) so far as the engineer skills are surprisingly effective, it actually makes liara pretty useless. Im using ashley and liara throughout this game to get their achievements.

Maxed pistols
8 points in tactical armor, up to where you get the 40% shields per second skill
Maxed Fitness
9 points in electronics so the skill is maxed
Maxed damping
9 points in decryption so the skill is maxed
All 12 points in operative/infiltrator talent (shortens cooldowns for electronics + decryption skills and makes them stronger)
All 9 points in intimidate talent (you get 3 bonus points)
4 points in spectre talents so you get the first level of unity
1 point in first aid

Its not really much of an offensive powerhouse, if i had wanted that i would have chose the commando specialisation instead. I suppose its hard to point out the weaknesses in the build as you cant really see the descriptions of the talents.....

Shotgun. Hold down fire and everything dies once you get some of the quality weapons.

The problem with snipers in this game is that everyone else is deadly accurate from miles away making sniping them difficult. Also as soon as a battle starts everyone seems to rush you, so again a shotty comes more in handy.

Completed this for the first time earlier. Took me 26 hours. I did all the side-quests except the dull MMO style ones - "Survery 10 thorium deposits...etc".

The storyline was good but I was kinda dissapointed at how easy the game became though. The hardest moments were actually the first few hours of the game, after that it became ridiculously easy, there was no challenge at all. Games shouldn't be like this.

Also it's a shame that the majority of the game seemed to be repetitive and dull side-quests all of which were very similar. The main storyline and missions are great but it's all too short.

I'd give it a 7/10.

I am just about to start my 2nd play through, I'm a Vanguard on level 46/47. How do I train to use my assault rifle and sniper rifles as it still says untrained beside them on the weapon select screen?

You cant, you will have to start another character which starts with those skills originally. You could also get 150(dont quote me on that) kills with either of those weapon types to unlock the skill for the next character you make, you can only choose one additional skill on creation though

Ah right, I've been trying to kill with the assault rifle but you have to get fairly close for it too make impact so I just went back to the Shotgun. Cheers mate.

I got this game from my Girlfriend on our First Anniversary, GOD! This game was fun... going for a second play thru with my character again, tho I'm tempted to replay a new character... something different.

I love the ending :)

If i was you i would start a new character, the game isnt very challenging past lv20(or so, they really should have scaled the enemies better imo) and you dont really learn any new skills or change your playstyle at higher levels anyway as you already have all the skills you need. A new character means you can play the game in a completely different way (different class, allignment, gender, romance story etc)

If you are really mean you could always rescue the asari last to see how badly it screws her brain up, im just not twisted enough to do it myself.

Does it work or just for Role Play value?

I might actually start a new character, be totally mean and wanting to rule the world with my specta status :D

It really does affect her, im just not sure how much.

Just read up about it....theres no permanent damage, it only changes the dialog when you first find her :(

Hmm... think I'll stick with getting her ASAP, I like her biotics - a total life saver when she starts hurling and spinning then robots whilst I shoot them down like flies...

Forgive me if this has been asked, and I should know better considering I'm 10 hours in, but it's not in the manual or anything. The manual is basically not useful for anything other than rolling paper and I don't even smoke.

Anyway... I need to know about opening containers etc. Sometimes it says I don't have the skill to do it since I'm playing a soldier and putting most points into combat skills, but does said skill depend on the player character or the tech skill of the whole squad? In other words, will having Tali in my squad help?

That's it for now, and I look forward to finally putting my mind at ease about this. ;)
