Hey all,

Been having problems now and then with getting pretty artifacts and colours all across screen with a added lockup for good measure. I know it has nothing to do with graphic card itself now as i never see artifacts in games only in desktop and now when i restarted i was getting scramble on the vista logo when it boots up to desktop. Only way to avoid it was to disable aero in vista.

PC is running fine now but ive lost the aero function, so now ive pretty much got an xp like system as ive lost all the eye candy of vista.

Just made this thread for other people if they find they have same problem with Vista ultimate 64. Its the aero !

Using nothing and no overclocks. It doesnt happen all the time, i thought i fixed it after disabling monitor sleep etc as some other people had problems with that and screen scramble.

Ive uninstalled / reinstalled many times and tried different methods.

Even reseated card.

The card works flawlessly in games and have never had a crash, but disabling aero fixed it for me.

Edit: I can enable and disable it fine without crashing but something is causing it to glitch and scramble screen while reseting computer

sounds to me like your install of vista is borked. Looking at your sig, you have 3 harddrives so you probably have a few partitions there. How about installing vista on 1 of those just to see if aero works? doesnt take too long to install and can easily delete it after.

Completely different pc spec, but my dads 7600GS does this on vista 64, cant run any recent forceware driver without the screen scrambling at odd times within vista. 3D apps work fine though, role back to the ms driver and all works fine.

looks like this......

We cant work out what the problem is

I may just do that, but so far it hasnt messed up, disabled aero so system would not freeze up and scramble screen but then enabled it once i was in the operating system and everything was fine and hasnt messed up since.

Have u tried disabling aero interface in the settings? reseating card and checking connections etc

If that doesnt work go into safe mode and uninstall the drivers, then restart then reinstall the latest drivers on normal mode.

I think its Xpertool as I went away from my PC and came back to see loads of artifacts on screen, never happened since getting rid of Xpertool :).

Well my problems back now and its even worse than usual with or without aero, ive tried everything from different power cables and reseating everything in my pc to make sure i didnt miss anything so think i have no choice but to rma, really annoyed

happening to when driver is uninstalled

edit: fails to boot at all now if install graphics driver guess my card is dieing

another edit: put an old 7800gtx in and computer works fine so there is a lot of dodgy 8800gts's going around
