Hi

Does anyone here play footy at the weekend in a organised league? Do you find it very violent and played by a lot of untalented people with a few who have talent targeted for serious fouls. The one that I play in is terrible with the referees not punishing anything other than a fist fight half the time.

Other experiences welcome.

Yes, but hey its all good fun. Most footballers are all talk anyway, if they give it just get back in their face and they back off.

I play on a Saturday and it can be as you describe (it kicked off a little bit at one point on Sat just gone). On the whole I find that most teams are ok to get on with though.

What league do you play in?

Again sometimes it is how you describe. I play saturdays and it is a lot less violent than sundays when I used to play. It is a better quality of footy too.

I must admit I'm probably one of the more violent players. Makes my job easier :)

I'm not dirty though. I go in strong but don't go in to hurt people. You end up hurting yourself that way, and at the end of the day we all go back to work monday morning.

I play saturday league, its mega dirty, BUT i found it a great success because the under 16s leagues which were sunday league were 10X worse than mens, which i was supprised, racism and everything in our under 16s and below, but to be fair the ref's were trying hard and were good.

in the 16s and below, you had the complete N*** on the teams where you walk past and theyd deck ya, literally, wanting a fight thinking its great. id stand up smile and burn past them :) DIE DIE

I play Sunday league 80% of the time it's all good. But then the other 20% people just want to fight and put bad tackles in.

To be fair it's mostly down to the Ref you get on the day. If you get a strict ref the game mostly goes well. But then you get the bad ref that lets everything go, which leads to more silly tackles / fights.

I got my first yellow card about a month ago for saying 'Your having a laugh ref'. I've been playing for about 10 years and my first yellow came from that!!!

Players struggle with me anyway due to my build, I'm about 6'4 and built like a brick **** house. I play up front so can hold the ball up quite easily :D

I tend to have about 3 people on my pushing and shoving due to my ability to flick headers on so I recieve quite a lot of fouls.

I'd be fouling you constantly. The bigger guys never get anything given against them unless they're defending.

yep thats sunday league except my league was 20% normal 80% bad tackles and fights, i got a yellow card for saying ''Go on mike''................because my mate was running for the ball....... the ref said when people are going in for tackles you cant shout there name....... :p have a big lauph RL :)

Heskey of Sunday league football :D

What, big, slow and couldn't hit the side of a barn from the inside? ;)

I currently play in goal for a Sunday amateur, having played various levels when I was at uni. Have seen a few nutters and Im still to see a player get booked or sent off but nothing obviously nasty. Even been on the end of a few kicks/ elbows/ knees to the face :o

I play sunday league and it's not violent... maybe cuz I'm 6' tall and with a solid build and due to my volleyball I can out jump anyone on the park.... i definately don't get muscled around on the pitch which is a good thing - however the little weedy twerps that get flattened might think it's a violent game haha...

Nah it's ok actually, except the one game this season where we had 4 red cards but - it was a very bad ref and a one-off lol

See I don't mind hard tackling, verbal threats and intimidation, pushing and shoving and holding - I consider all of that part of the game.

What annoys me is being punched like in the face or something when the ref ain't looking, bad tackles at waist-height nowhere near the ball, violence from spectators, people pulling knives on me... all of that is way beyond what it is worth to play for a team.

Yes, we had a team in our league that used to bring knives to games. Thats when the fun stops - they got booted out for this season though which was nice. I do play in a Luton league though :D
