Hey all, just started my first ever job and got this letter about employment record but I'm unsure as to if its a must fill in form or something, surely they already have my details?

Has anyone filled one of these out before?

Cheers

They probably sent all your info on discs to some other department that didn't need it using TNT. I'd just fill it in and return it so they can pass it on to somewhere else.

I got one saying that I might have not paid enough and if I wish I could pay a voulentary payment, erm yeah sure.....

They dont have any employment details for you.
They are too stupid/lazy to join the dots and work out you have not had a job before and simply wish you to do it for them.

This is the first of many pointless and and unnecessary letters from HMRC that you will have to reply to over your working life.

I would fill it in as it will ensure that you will be paying the right amount of income tax and NI. Paying to much means you won't see a refund until the end of the year and paying to little just means no end of trouble once they catch up with you and they will catch up with you.

I only work part time which I thought ment you didnt get taxed? also on my wage slips there isnt any tax just my hours and rate.

You will most definitely get taxed (assuming you earn more than your personal allowance - about £5000).

When I started working part time I was overtaxed and didn't get any cash back until the end of that financial year.

That looks a little different than the self assessment form I filled in, but similar..
Definitley fill it in, otherwise they'll stick you on emergency tax which really sucks.

Cut out the middle man and publish your personal details directly on the internet. :p

Forms like that are a direct result of the government creating jobs out of nothing, there is a massive raft of bureaucracy created for no other purpose than reducing the dole queues at the expense of tax payers - what delicious irony. For instance, every year I get a form from the VOA whose purpose is to compile and maintain a record of business rates throughout the country. Why?

In the coming years our lives will require us all to fill in more and more forms so that we can be categorised and, more importantly, taxed. :(

As for this form, I have never seen one before or have no idea why it is necessary. Your job 'history' has no bearing on the amount of tax you pay now.

I think if you earn over a certain amount of money they send you a self assessment form, so they can "hammer you" in the correct way.. a few years ago I changed jobs and didn't get that form, as a result I got put on emergency tax and it took ages to get the money back, the attidude that they take it off you just because you missed a form is plain wrong imho, its taking advantage of the few people who forget/lose the form to get extra cash.

Didn't mean to turn this into another rant at Hector.... carry on! :D

I have, couple of years ago, easy really, state what youve done past few years, age and address etc, years at present address.

Its easy really, email me if you have any issues...

That isn't a self assessment form though, I get one of those every year as well. I have never heard of an employment record form.
