Tiger goes on rampage

Serves em right for keeping animals they can't manage to look after properly. No sympathy here.

No sympathy for the people that were killed?

I certainly expect a zoo to keep all their animals securely locked in, especially the ones that could rip me into pieces!

Yeah I heard about that, and expected that it would have been put down before reading it, and guess what, it was

It's a tiger ffs.

While I dont agree with killing such an amazing animal unnecessarily, in this situation what were they to do?

"Now Tatiana, you hurry up and finish your snack, then it's back to the enclosure for you! you naughty, naughty Tiger!"

I dont think that would quite do the job tbf.

I actually had a dream about this this morning. I fell asleep with the news on and they we reading out this story. It must have influenced my dream because in my dream there was a tiger going around attacking people, but then I became friends with it and we cuddled :D

The same tiger attacked somebody last year through the cage, so they built a better enclosure and now it escapes! Unbelievable

Poor little tiger, just doing what it does best! This is why zoos are a bad idea!

Shame those visitors were in the wrong place at the wrong time as well!

note to self -- don't go to San Francisco zoo near closing time

Its starting to sound like the people in charge of the animals had been drinking and the person in charge of the enclosure had been high on drugs and claiming "some of the animals might get loose later" 3 hours before the tiger "escaped".

I always find it quite sad when animals in reserves or zoos have to be put down because some idiot thinks that a carniverous animal won't attack them just because it is in a protected area. Or in this case just because it attacked a human it had to be put down. What did they expect tigers to eat...cabbages?

it escaped and was charging the cops just after they had seen it attack some guy in cafe, them or it. not like it was their choice to be there.

Why was it not just tranquilized? That to me makes more sense! It's not like it was shot for punishment or justice, just to stop the frenzy and for people's safety.

because it was police not animal control and a tranq wont stop it instantly a bullet will, well it was probably severally bullets.

You've just seen some tiger eat a guy then it starts coming at you what would you do?

I've not had chance to look at this in any depth but a safer enclosure would have helped. One where the public view the animals 15 feet above and one in which resources and keepers would have to descend or be lowered viz a viz a lift or other system.

Fair enough then, still you would have thought that they would have tranquilizers around a place like that - why did they have to wait for the police to arrive. It's escaped so shoot it straight away with some tranq's. Sounds unorganized to me.

not really that's just more cruel for the animal, here the just have a 20ft fence, putting them in a pit is just harsh.

do they have animal tranquilizer swat teams at the ready?

c`mon its just a zoo, they dont expect the animals to escape and go on a rampage, and with members of the public all around they can hardly risk going about shooting can they
