Tiger goes on rampage

Fair enough then, still you would have thought that they would have tranquilizers around a place like that - why did they have to wait for the police to arrive. It's escaped so shoot it straight away with some tranq's. Sounds unorganized to me.

And what would they do whilst they wait for the tranquillisers to take effect? "Sorry Sir, but the tiger will stop ripping you to pieces in just a moment when the Tranquillisers kick in". "Meanwhile, if you could just tickle her chin.............".

There's a valuable lesson to be learned here, don't go to zoos! no one ever died of a tiger attack going to the cinema or restaurant. It's not like its a rare occurance, how many times do you hear big cats killing or injuring people in zoos? Seems pretty common to me.

I've not had chance to look at this in any depth but a safer enclosure would have helped. One where the public view the animals 15 feet above and one in which resources and keepers would have to descend or be lowered viz a viz a lift or other system.

Thats just cruel, and more dangerous to the keepers :|

(also, viz a viz? should be vis a vis and usually means 'with regards to' in English, most commonly used these days by legal types trying to look the part, confused me in your sentence tbh)

yes, therefor it is a shame they were in the wrong place at the wrong time! have you never heard that saying before  it applies to anyone when something goes wrong!

ahhh sorry i thought i saw the word "on" in there

AS in shame on those people.

my mistake :o

do they have animal tranquilizer swat teams at the ready?
\Now that would be cool!
But all I was saying is that you would thought that near such dangerous animals, big ass tranq guns would be available to the workers - just in case, this to me just makes sense. I mean surely it would have been quicker for a worker of the zoo to get a tranq gun than wait for the police to turn up? Tranquilizers do not take ages to kick in I would have thought? Yeah a bit longer than being shot dead.
End of the day it's an endangered species that is now dead through human error again - we're meant to be helping.

also tranqs have to be carefully judged little to much is deadly to little wont do enough, and most probably the vet will have been on holiday so a general staff member wouldn't be able to do do it, and also would have been evacuated.

And for a safe tranq you just have to watch those films of them catching gazelle takes about 10 mins for it to go down while they follow with a truck till it collapses.

There's 6.5 billion humans and less than a thousand siberian tigers. I know who I'd rather leave to die. Cold? Perhaps, but it's an endangered species.

so it deserves to die then really doesn't, survival of the fittest and all that.

there's less Icelandic people than British so are they worth more than us?

Well, honestly, what do people expect when you cage up dangerous animals and let members of the public walk around gawping at them?

It's always a matter of 'when' not 'if' something goes horribly wrong, it's a shame a tiger had to die, purely because it was acting naturally, in an unnatural situation people had forced it into.

Anyone for a wager it'll be some Animal Rights activists that let it loose and it turned around and attacked them?

While I dont agree with killing such an amazing animal unnecessarily, in this situation what were they to do?

"Now Tatiana, you hurry up and finish your snack, then it's back to the enclosure for you! you naughty, naughty Tiger!"

I dont think that would quite do the job tbf.

Tazer?

according to reuters video as linked on P1. the tiger was not attacking anyone and was infact just approaching the police officers who apparently just bottled it and shot the cat...

I'm sure it was just approaching them for a bit of polite conversation as well. I would have shot it as well, and I'd like to see what anyone here saying "why did they shoot it ffs" would have done.

How on earth did they bottle it? What exactly would have you done, maybe to try and put a leash around its neck?
