Hi Peeps,

Please can you advise me what is the best Core 2 Duo supporting Motherboard for around £60ish, although less would be better.

Its for a new build using my old x1800XL card and i'm thinking of using:

Intel Core 2 Duo E2160 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.80GHz (800FSB) - Retail £46.99 inc VAT as processor.

I'll prob be getting these ram sticks:

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit for £30

So when my mates come round they should be able to play something half decent.

Thanks in advanced and I really appreciate any feed back

Heretic :D

Thanks for responses so far. There are 3 for £64 which one's a good one do ya reckon?

also what speed do you imagine i'll be able to overclock the E2160 on stock cooling with a £64 mobo

Cheers

Any kind of realistic overclocking (sub 450-500FSB) will be reached on those as it will on one over double the price. Abit and Gigabyte seem to be the most popular brands at the minute. As for speeds I'd say about 3.2-3.4Ghz MAX for the E2160 with the stock HSF.

ta

thanks all...

just to let you know i went for:

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

so fingers crossed for a good overclock on my E2160

:D:cool:

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)
£14.99
(£17.61)

worth it imho.

Does the E2160 stock HSF come with an aluminium or copper base? I know the E2180 is copper (as I have one) and the E2140 is alu.
