Got given a Asus Maximus Formula SE for xmas, now do I stick with my P5K Deluxe or swap it out for the Maximus?

will I see much of a performance increase with the Maximus over the P5K Deluxe?

I doubt very much that you will see a performance increase from the maximus. P35's seem to overclock ever so slightly better but the maximus is a better board for crossfire. If you intend on going crossfire then the maximus is the way to go, if not then I'd stick with the p5k as it will clock better/the same and the resale value of the maximus will also be higher.

This is what makes me laugh, lots & lots of people jumped to the Maximus Formula & the majority of them are using 1 Nvidia card - so whats the actual benefit? Does it give a better stable overclock? are the heatsinks superior??

Not sure mate, thats what I'm trying to find out.

im using mine with a pair of 3870s and i must say this is probably one of the best boards ive used, (had the blitz before this one), also i did use this with a 8800GT before the crossfire setup.

The heatsink unit in my opinion is rubbish, temps for the northbridge were around 60-65 with passive cooling which i though was really high, im using custom thermalright sinks on the northbridge / south bridge and vrms? northbridge is now 48 degrees, southbridge 39 and this is with a clocked 6300 @ 3.5GHz on silent air.

It is an excellent board with many features and overclocking potential

Thanks for the info, can you tell me what voltage your northbridge was at when the temps was at 60-65 with the passive cooling?

NB - 1.45v
SB = 1.07v
FSB T = 1.46v

i did notice when i placed a small 70mm fan over the nb it used to bring the temps down a good 10-15 degrees or so, and without a fan it was very hot to touch. Im using a thermaltake case with decent but quiet air flow.

This 60-65 degrees is after replacing the goo with arctic MX-2 and all the push pin points replaced with bolts instead

im not sure if 60 degrees in general is too hot but im not happy with those kind of temps, i personally think the all in one solution is probably heating the n/b up more, not sure if its really that bad as there are quotes of 100 degrees threshold temps.
