since its still this year, i was just looking through youtube and looked at some videos of this years football and looking why kaka won and why messi came 2nd, and ronaldo 3rd in the rankings,

im a united supporter so people expect me to favour ronaldo but i took some thinking and looked at some more videos, and i want to know what you all think about them, i know we have already covered it a little in the results thread but oh well.

what i know about ronaldo is he's consistent and on the majority of times unstoppable and currently a goal machine. imo

kaka is he consistent ? is he unstoppable ? is he a goal machine ? same with messi

after thinking i thought ronaldo deserves it more.....

what i tried to visualize is getting a team with ronaldo, messi and kaka on the bench and swapping them around.... whos going to make the biggest impact.... who can win a game.... i know my opinion

(take away the results of the rankings and take away past issues off the pitch)

Im talking football!

So you've looked at a couple of videos and think you've seen enough to pass judgement?

I haven't seen enough of Kaka and Messi to say who deserves it overall, but yes they're consistent players. If they weren't they a) wouldn't be in the shortlist for the player of the year and b) wouldn't be star players at two of the biggest clubs in world football.

thats why im asking ffs

ive watched them in champions league everyround, ive never seen them shine with my own eyes, but thats because i havnt seen them that much.....and again thats why im asking! pfft

What are you getting wound up for?

That is passing judgement, whatever questions are asked elsewhere.

Ronaldo and Kaka are more effective players than Messi at the moment, in my opinion. I'd have been happier with the World Player award going Kaka, Ronaldo, Messi.

One of the main reasons Kaka got it over Ronaldo was the fact that Kaka produced some excellent displays in the latter stages of the champions league. Something that Ronaldo is yet to do!

Hopefully Ronaldo can take some of his form of recent league games into the up and coming champions league games :).

yeh thats true, only game ive really seen ronaldo be top draw in cl is against roma

I don't think YouTube is a valid judgement to be honest.

What I would say though is that Ronaldo can do what Kaka and Messi can do, but neither of them can do what Ronaldo does. It's easier to score goals as a supporting striker than a winger too, so Ronaldo does exceptionally well.

As I mentioned before, Messi was a substitute for the vast majority of last season, so I don't understand how he could have come so highly. Phenomenal talent and great potential, but you should surely have to change the way your team play or have a massive impact on that (a la Kaka in the European Cup). Ronaldo's team did better than either of the others teams as a whole, but as Quiroz said, the only thing that Kaka has that Ronaldo doesn't is that Champions League badge.

Three great players, I'd say Kaka and Ronaldo are definitely 2 of the best 3 also.

He's the top scorer IN the Champions League. He came second in the Opta rankings thing for points in last seasons CL too (behind Kaka). Ronaldo has also ONLY just turned 23, Kaka is older and in an easier position to run the show for Milan, a team built around a Supporting striker.

I don't think Ronaldo can do what Kaka can do, Kaka is a lot more creative with his play, especially passing wise. Ronaldo creates chances through his pace but he is a very selfish player hence why he scores lots.

I saw in the champions league when Kaka was clean through, would have easily scored but squared it to Inzaghi so he could beat some record. I doubt Ronaldo would have done that. I'd say Kaka is definately more of the team player.

Also Ronaldo makes ridiculous decisions defensivley, instead of passing he'll try dribble himself out of trouble resulting in getting tackled. Saw it a few times against Liverpool and nearly cost Man U.

ronaldo is still 22 according to wiki, and yeh i was gonna say ronaldo is one of the very phew wingers who have ever been top scorer

EDIT to andy: kaka more creative than ronaldo.....not imo

and making the mistakes is another show of his age, not that he makes that many anyway.......

I'm not entirely sure Ronaldo can do what Kaka does. Kaka is a much more polished and complete midfielder IMO.

Why? I think if Milan had a lot better strikers than Gilardinio and Inzaghi he'd get a lot more assists.

Yes I am aware that Ronaldo had more assists last season.

apart form scoring yesterday he had a big part in 2 other goals......

may be strange to say but ronaldo does more than some think imo

Ronaldo was set up in a role against Liverpool where the idea was to get the ball to him and have him run with it so our defence can push up. It comes with the territory of having someone perform that, high risk - high reward (and it worked).
Ronaldo doesn't normally do that, only when we need to push our defence out, the ball goes straight to Ronaldo on the edge of our box or long to Rooney if he's out (usually on the left).
It's not Ronaldo doing it for the sake of doing it, it's because he's been set that task and it's not a new system, we've always employed it. When you watch Man Utd as much as I have you'd see the same role was done by Giggs, Kanchelskis, Rooney and Ronaldo over recent years.

Ronaldo is quite selfish, but not overly so. Yes, he'll try and beat two men, but he usually does, but he also passes a lot and sets lot of goals up. If you watch all of our goals this and last season I'd be amazed if Ronaldo didn't play a key-role in over 90% of them. It might not have been the ultimate pass, but quite often it's the penultimate pass. Kaka in the Supporting Striker role is to make the final pass (a lot like Rooney or Tevez do for us), Ronaldo's job is to beat the players and try to smash in a cross, a goal or play a ball to someone better placed to make the final ball and he almost always does, which is why he's a phenomenal player.

no need to stew on it, don't really see how messi came 2nd but not really going to worry about it. in international football i still think there is a slight bias against those playing in the english leagues and obviously opposition fans aren't going to call him the best in the world. To be honest for me i just feel privileged to have someone like Ronaldo in the team who seems, at the age of 22 to be just realising exactly how much better he is than all of the opposition at football. If he bangs in 25+ for us this season and we finish top of the league then they can give the individual award to whoever they want. I doubt United or Portugal would swap him for anyone in world football at the moment though.
