Bhutto killed

My Pakistani housemate certainly doesnt think she was one of the good guys, she was corrupt like most of them and her father i believe

Result.

Means we get to liberate someone new. :o

I'm sure people in Washington and London are already on it. :(

Pakistan have nukes and a large army - the US only go after soft targets like Iraq and Afghanistan. Bush has talked big on North Korea in the past but would never dare do anything to back it up (even he is not that stupid).

You do Realise India would love to run in and Destroy them if they could:eek:

And Pakistan are Squabbling among them selves and arnt getting to involved with killing westerners yet(apart from the Extremists that come out of it)

Although I am sure they would love to, they wouldn't risk the international fallout from doing so. India are a very large international player now, with the amount of outsourcing going there they have too much to loose - they would be more than happy to just sit back and watch Pakistan destroy itself.

there is a distinct smell of set up though -go back home after having a dodgy past 2 attempts on her life in six weeks 1 works ,now everyone can jump in for what its worth .

She wasn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but at least she was a voice of reason and not full of hate. She must have known they would be coming for her at some point, but still she went back to Pakistan and out on to the streets campaigning. Benazir Bhutto certainly had courage, I'll give her that.

Sadly such traits are liable to make you a target for the darker forces at large in todays world.

Bad business. :(

Musharraf did try pacifying the tribal areas, but the Pakistani army lost 1 for 1 against the rebels, so they pulled out of the region.

As for Bhutto, I suspect ISI involvement. Islamist suicide bombers pretty much didn't exist until Musharraf took power...it would likely be through a proxy group to disguise ISI links.

The corruption charges against her were never proved, although from what I've heard they're probably true. But she was fighting for democracy and clearly willing to risk her life - I think we need more like her.

For a country that spends so much on defence spending they're not very good are they?

Nope, their aircraft proved largely useless in the Waziristan campaign, and the rebels inflicted heavy casualties (according to the Wiki article, over a few weeks about 1,000 troops were lost).

She was pro-democracy, and diametrically opposed to the Zia-ul-Haq regime. A forward-thinker in a backward nation.

She was as corrupt as they come, this forward thinking stuff was only to get the west on her side. She had robbed the country in her time before and was only back because she saw another chance to do it again. Just like most of the other Pakistani politicians are only it in for the money and that is why the country is going down the pan.

There is corruption wherever there is money or power. Just look at the cash for honours scandal in this country and Enron in the US. It's just that in 3rd world countries it is more prevelant, or more likely, visible (easier to hide corruption when you have good accountants).

Most of them??

Her policies were for an overall improvement. A moderately bad person in a murky world of very bad politicians.

I wouldn't say she was one of the good guys but I also wouldn't argue that she wasn't one of the better of the bunch.
