Or am i just getting too picky

work meals are often rubbish and especially this time of year. Cheaper places over pack there restarunt and simply can't cope.

£30 a head is aslso cheap for a 3 course meal and I wouldn't expect top notch eating for that price.

Also unless it's new only go where people have recommended.

Loads of nice food still out there. But there's also a lot of rubbish as well. They cater for people with microwave meal taste buds.

If you want speed - go to Wetherspoons; where all the food is from packets and microwaved to your liking. I usually order at the bar, sit down, have a few sips, and then it's there in front of me, having been dropped from above by some scrotty woman.

Have to agree.... especially in N.Ireland, the service and quality of food in restaurants that charge stupid prices is terrible.

At least Belfast has some decent enough places.... you should see some of the places in Derry, or Donegal (one of the reasons most establishments only last 5 or 6 years). Whenever I eat out these days, I can't believe how bad the service is in some places (when you pay about £100 for a meal for 2) - they really need to take some lessons from the Americans and get their acts together. And god forbid you ask them to do something other than whats on the menu or where the meat is sourced from - you usually get some dumb waitress giving you a blank look of horror.

Last 2 times I went out, I wasn't impressed. Wife ordered a steak that smelt off. They didn;t have the starter she asked for, so she ordered an alternative. She then got her main course with the starter (and the chef then told us the steak smelt funny due to the onions he had used in the pan in the previous dish ???) - Now excuse me, but I know what off meat is like (having worked as a butcher)

I think it's just you personally....

I've had some meals that are a bit crap, but usually thats in a pub or somewhere and really not worth the hassle.

The one day I'd say is best to avoid eating out though is New Years Day... everyone is to hungover. I once went out for lunch on NYD while I was living in Canada. A few of us ordered a huge plate of Nachos and had to send it back twice because of how burnt it was..... Come on, its like the easiest dish to make ever!

You don't have to put up with bad food especially when you are paying through the nose for it. I normally go out a couple of times a month with my girlfriend and if something is wrong we make sure the manager knows about it.

Me, my girlfriend and my parents booked a table at one place for 8:30pm a few months back. We turned up at about 8:20pm and the manager informed us that there was going to be a delay in seating us. Without us even complaining he gave us 2 rounds of drinks free. One while we were waiting for the table and the last round we ordered and 50% off of the meal. The discount on the meal alone was 80 quid, not bad given the fact that we were actually seated by 8:35pm only 5 minutes late.

Can i ask what hotel and resturant you went to just for future reference and it see if i have any personal experience since i live basically near Belfast? :D
