Sim City 4 or Civilization IV?

Defo civ 4! But if you really want that type of game then the only real option is Alpha Centauri with add on! :)

Civilization 4 without a doubt, I've been hooked on it again since deciding to blow the dust off it at the weekend and now I just can't stop playing it no matter how hard I try. I'm playing it right now.

P.S. Persia owns your face in vanilla Civ4!! :p :D

I hate the way Sim City 4 builds roads when you places zones. So much so that I gave up trying to play it. :p

another vote for Civ 4 - go for BTS too. that civfanatics site is excellent, you should check out the forums for an idea of how the game plays out, there's a guy called Stisuil (sp) who plays a series of succession games (in the Strategy forum), with screenshots and advice discussion.

Another vote for Civ 4, and make sure you get BTS its a lot better than Warlords, can't get back off this game since BTS came out, gives it a whole new lease of life :).

meh just got this over Steam £21 with the beyond the sword pack

never played em , but watched a mate play and quite enjoyed it... :D

i take it

Civ 4 & beyond the sword are both indipendent?

beyond the sword is an expansion pack, you need the vanilla version to play the latter.

I would say Civ 4, but I personally wasn't that keen on it. I found it got a boring after a while, but generally I seem to be alone on that opinion, so ignore me ;)

Nope I agree, Civ III seems to have been the pinacle. Or, if you have played Civ II or Civ III Civ IV seems to be somewhat lacking... looks great though.

I've played lots of Civ since the original on my Amiga A1200. Beyond The Sword is definitely my favourite so far (though agree that Civ 4's menu music was best :p). I completed Vanilla with Germans and English, just played through BTS with the French. Played slightly differently each time, for more fun as well as learning curve. My next go will be with a civ to win entirely militarily, as previously I won with Diplomacy, Domination and Space Race respectively. But I'm going to leave it for some months. It takes many hours to complete a game and also I don't want it to lose appeal for me. Might play through a Scenario or two though, haven't tried those yet and some look interesting.

What mods would people recommend? Also, what difficulty do people play at? I can just about handle Monarch. I tried Deity but got obliterated! lol

so does it matter where you start? e.g. Civ 1-2-3 etc .. as ill be starting at Civ 4
