Racing a new scooby unmarked police

it can also probably result in a charge for you (dangerous driving?) if they catch you on camera deliberately causing an accident by slamming on the brakes when there is no need;), although the officers would also be in trouble.

I would much rather run into a traffic cop than a speed camera, as the cop is likely to use discretion and be much more use at actually promoting safe driving than any amount of cameras.

Just say you saw a bird in the middle of the road and had to slow down.

If it was 2 normal cars, the second car was about an inch from the rear of the 1st car and the 1st car slammed on the brakes, it would be the second cars fault 100%. Dont see why this should be any different for a police car. And also, if they had footage of you slamming on the brakes, im pretty sure then they would have the footage of them basically egging you on, so i doubt they would produce it.

Wierd as that would have been one of their Traffic cars, I think they were being nice..

Give aways for Unmarked cars are Hi-Viz Jackets, Extra ariels, and during the day you can easily spot the LEDs on the side of the car.

But if you say they were right up your Jacksie, they wont risk getting done themselves :) as well, I think traffic cops are (the nice ones anyway) about striking a fear and hitting home rather that just dishing out FPNs and bringing charges :)

Pretty much all cars on the road, bar some early 80's Fiestas and the sort, have 2 wing mirrors.

Prolly means Rear View..

Yeh, thats another thing.. as well its pretty easy to see their ANPR camera as its normally directly underneath..

I look for the extra antenna or makes of car.

Volvo estate
Vectra
Octavia VRS in black
Primera (The fire officer ones really make me **** my pants on occasions!)

However, nearly got caught out by a Pug 206 marked car the other day

The ones i've picked up from work normally for most forces..

Volvo V70/50
Vauxhall Omega, Vectra and Astra
Skoda Oktys
Scooby Impreza
Also i've had a 5 series or two, but only a couple of forces have them
Occasionally a Mondeo, I know Staffs have an un-marked one as it pulled me over once.

I swear I saw two officers in a grey Toyota Corolla on Christmas Day.

White shirts, black jackets... driver had a radio clipped to his jacket.

Quite possible, but whether they were on traffic duty is another question. They could be unmarked police going to investigate something :)

Yup, seen one here on the A34 Oxford stretch cruising in the BMW lane, bet it felt right at home!

i saw a unmarked scooby pulling up an m3 on the m62 a bit back, there is some flashy police cars now

ANPR cameras are usually on marked vehicles, and are on the outside.

Patrol cars tend to be single-crewed, so second mirrors are rare.

Unmarked cars almost always have only a single aerial unless they are something like an ARV.

Very few have external LEDs where you can see them: they are usually inside the radiator grille, on the parcel shelf etc.

Apart from that, some great tips...

Oh - and the proper response to being tail-gated is to slow down a little so that you increase the safety area around your car. If you speed up over the limit. then you have only yourself to blame if you then get pulled over. Frustrating, but true.

And where are all these tail-gating police cars baiting people? I've been driving twenty years, much of it pretty fast, and I've never seen one. The only time one followed me was at night and he stayed well back to make sure I couldn't identify him. The police car will close up once for a few seconds to check the look of the driver/passengers, do an PNC check etc, then drop back. The world is hardly short of speeders, so why on earth would they bother to get someone to speed unless they already were over the limit?

Local plod has at least one 57 reg impreza I saw the other day. Fully marked up though with an aerial farm and more day-glow than Elton.

I thought they need 2 police officers present to give you a speeding ticket or summons? or is that just some random internet "fact"

Welcome to the reason why the police have respect and cameras don't. When the police used to enforce speeding directly, having points for speeding actually mattered, as it normally meant you were driving like a pleb and speeding. Most officers don't arrest people for safe speeding, which is exactly how the system should work.

Unfortunately, our various governments decided that 'speed kills', even though it's a load of dingos kidneys, is a more palletable road safety message than "Stupid people kill" when stupid people covers a large part of the voters.

Still, nothing like trading safety for political benefits I suppose, we can't expect less from a government that does not have to demonstrate it's laws actually provide a benefit.

Theres a black Focus ST on the M6 (midlands area) you just cant tell at all if its a copper motor, which is just cheating imo:p

We should start a database of the unmarked cars we know about. eg there is a grey Skoda Octavia on the M6 that usually gets people just before the toll booth area northbound.

The White shirt and Black stab vest is usually a dead giveaway :D

M23 is fun, we have a mercedes c-class estate (might be AMG), 2 Evo's, a scooby, couple of octavia's and also a marked evo 8.

you shouldnt be so naieve to think the cops 'only' use a certain range of cars, they aint that stupid :p

a good friend of mine regularly takes out a mk5 gti, integra type r, and they also have a few bmw 330's for use.

all unmarked.
