I've rec'd Nokia N95 8Gb

Over 18 months you'll be paying £630 for the £35 pm contract and £540 on a £30 contract.

You currently pay around £380 over the same 18 month period.

Are you going to get a sim free N95 8GB for around £160 -250? Even if T-Mobile gave you a free upgrade and you sold it straight away, you'd probably get up to £100-150 as it won't be a high value, sought after handset. You'll still have to stump up a lot of extra cash.

I can't see O2 offering a decent contract. Whilst there might probably be more minutes and texts in the £35 a month I'll be paying compared to Three, the data charges will be utterly terrible.

With Three I'm paying:

Free N95 8GB
£30 Mix & Match 300 - 300 Anytime any network minutes or texts or any mix of the two
300 3 to 3 minutes
Free Voicemail, Instant messaging and Skype
£5 extra every month for X-Series Silver bundle for unlimited data (1GB fair usage)

For £30 a month, O2 will give you 400 minutes and 1000 texts. Much better than my deal with Three. But they give you a piddly 1MB browsing allowance every month. They do an "Unlimited browsing" data bolt on for £7.50 but comes with a fair usage policy of 200MB.

Everyone knows what the Vodafone deal is at the moment (free handset, £35 a month, 300 minutes, 250 texts, 120MB data).

T-Mobile should be competitive with the Flext + WnW tariffs.

No good for me as I'm currently with T-Mobile at approaching the end of my contract. I'd like to keep my number this time, but my monthly spend isn't high so they won't be offering a brand new N95 8GB to me for free or cheap.

I could cancel and take up a new contract but then I'd lose my number, which I don't want to do.

Are you sure you can add x series to the N95 8Gb as according to their site I can't add x series if I choose this phone.

They can be had for between £300-350 on the bay atm. in 2-3 months when my contract is due they should be a fair bit cheaper.

After you've chosen the handset and tariff, you come to a deal summary page.

Theres a purple section saying 'Want some Add-ons?'

When you expand this section, theres an option to add Internet Max for £5.

What is Add Internet Max

Get unlimited internet browsing and internet email for just £5.00 per month. Visit hundreds of great sites, such as ITN, Lastminute.com, Multimap, and National Rail Enquiries. Or use Yahoo! Search to search the open internet and go straight to the information you need.

Found this on X-Series Silver:

What is X-Series Silver?

Get eBay, Mobilcast, unlimited Skype to Skype calls and get email direct to you mobile.

Thats also £5.

Looks pretty much identical to be honest. If its not, I guess I can always phone 3 up and change to X-Series Silver.

I bought a N95-2 yesterday for £260, i just couldnt be bothered to take out a contract and end up paying close to £4-500 notes for the duration of the contract.

Nice phone actually, quite slim compared to my TYTN,certainly not a brick as it looks in the pics.

Ive put Route 66 on it and it seems to work well, but not as good as TOMTOM.

Whether its as good in its smartphone guise as the offerings from HTC, remains to be seen, buit the multimedia sides of it are excellent, and im quite impressed with the camera too.

How much is your contract though?

If its £20 a month, over 18 months thats £360. Combine that with the cost of the handset and you're looking at over £600 for the duration of the contract.

I have a phone from Work, so i have no need for a big contract, my personal contract is a cheapy £12 a month rolling jobbie, which means i can never get a good deal when upgrading, which is why i bought a 'sim free' phone.

How are you finding Route 66?

I seriously considered sticking with an MS PPC as Tom Tom 6 works perfectly with an integrated GPS unlike the N95.

Suppose I could just use Tom Tom 6 on my N95 with a bluetooth GPS but the whole idea was to reduce the number of devices to carry around.

Hopefully version 7 will rectify the problem.

What other GPS Map softwares are there that are N95 compatible? Is the GPS tracking better than the 'Maps' software in them?

I noticed that as well, as i went from a TyTn to a N95 8Gb. Far smaller than pictures represent.

Im not sure what you mean by 'smartphone guise', but i will say that the contact handeling/filtering and the calander data that can be put on it, is nowhere near as good as a WM based device imo.

Simply put is as god a smartphone as the TYTN, as you say i dont think it is, the keyboard was very handy on the TYTN, and the ability to scribble down notes and what not with a stylus was a godsend, but i recently found myself using that less and less.

I think Route 66 and Garmin XT are the only GPS bits of software that work with the internal GPS, so far Route 66 looks ok, i need to try it out on a run to see how accurate it is.

I wasnt speaking in regards to physical functionality, i was speaking in regards to its software functionality.
WM's calender/contacts compared to the S60 stuff is amazing.
With WM, anything i put in a calender event, be it txt, html or pictures, will come up in the calender entry on the phone. S60's dont do that, at least not properly.
And i can seperate my contacts on my TyTn with catagories, the S60 based stuff cant do that.

Its no biggy to me tbh, and im already used to, and prefering my N95 8Gb over my TyTn.

Has anyone had any quality control issues with their 8GB?

the black covering on my middle button, in the centre of the four way button thing, is flaking off. And I treat all my phones likes princesses so it's not through lack of care.

Also, the black covering on the 0 key is flaking away too.

Most annoying.

Mines been fine?

anyone using the Invisible Shield? just want know if they cover the lens. I Know Martin Fields covers the lens not too sure if it will effect the picture quality.

I'm using the Martin Fields one, ended up buying two of them because I knew I'd mess the first one up (got a hair under it when I applied it, tried taking it off and reapplying but by then it was even worse). I haven't noticed any loss of quality with the camera to be honest.

thanks will but one to try it out as my friend is worried the lens will get scratched. I have the invisible shield for my Classic N95 and was easy to apply onto the screen as you wet it first and once on the screen you can move it about then squeegee the water out, but I guess with the Martin's you need to apply it on right first time?

Well, I'm a total perfectionist - as it is there is a single spec of dust under the MF shield I'm using on mine now. If it weren't for the fact I know it would be worse if I tried to do something about it I would take it off and reapply. Ironically I find it's worse if you only have a single visible imperfection because you instantly focus on it :(

Go a 1st edition N95 and struggling with playing flash videos on it, e.g. youtube? Done a bit of googling and have had mixed reports-some sites say its impossible, others say it works fine with plugin, but I can't find the flash lite plugin for n95 for the life of me!
