Bohemian Rhapsody

You had to be there.
Theres only several of us on here that were actually there when it came out and it was completely different to anything that came before it.
I was a Queen fan at the time : I'd seen them supporting Mott the Hoople in 72, seen them on their very first headlining tour promoting Sheer Heart Attack and then this awesome track came out.
It was also different because they had to make a video for it to show on TOTP.
In those days you had to re-record your song in the BBC studios and then mime to that but there was no way Queen were ever going to re-record Bo Rap in 4 hours so video history was made.

No. You didn't 'have to be there'.

He just may not like the song.

ps. I saw Beethoven supporting Mozart at Download back in 1820.

It's clearly an excellent piece of music, and has a place in my heart due to my Dad playing it while I was young.

The first half is superiour in my opinion, the solo 2:30 in is lovely.

I don't really like it anymore. I wouldn't care if I never heard it again. Just like the Slade Christmas song. But I can still acknowledge them both as masterpieces of songwriting.

You had to be there to experience the impact that it had on the music scene at the time.
I don't like the song either.
Queen for me were about the first two albums and everything after was pompous but there was no denying the influence Bo Rap had at the time.
Once again you had to be there to appreciate and very quickly get bored with the bloody thing after they'd played it the 1000th time in 6 weeks.

You couldn't have seen Beethoven supporting Mozart back in 1820 because Mozart was dead.
If you're going to have a jealous rant then do it better.
Just remember - you will see bands that I will never get to see and for that I am totally and utterly jealous of you.

No doubt it's a classic piece of songwriting, and I quite like it. No point in arguing over opinions though is there.

I generally regard the music top 10 as the top 10 to avoid, but they're there for a reason I guess.

Good to hear this every year or so, however Cheesy nightclubs tend to play this a lot, so I end up hearing it twice a week... very irritating!

Awesome song. I couldn't tell you why I like it, what I like about it or any of the history of the song but it makes me smile every time.

I found some of my dad's old vinyl over Christmas and listened to "A night at the Opera" - not one of my favourite Queen albums but it still sounded fantastic, partly because of the novelty of the vinyl (sorry dmpoole) and partly because of the sentimental value, knowing it was one of my dad's favourite records.

I don't understand why people hate the song for being overrated - hate the people who overrate it. :)

It's a fantastic song. Being regarded higher than it is doesn't make it bad. :p

It brings back nostalgia, remember it played on the radio in the 70's. But its by no means their best, overplayed and doesnt even compare to something like Brighton Rock.

Fantastic song, one of my favourites by Queen.
Not the best song ever though, Dream Theatre, Led Zeppelin and of course Pink Floyd have all bettered it imo :)
