Im not sure if a big thread like this has been done before, but i did have a search and couldnt find one. Basically this is my first year living and working in london and for my girlfriend who has come over from oz will be her first new years over here. Where would be the best places to go? Just general hot spots? New years parties at clubs, fireworks, bars just general good places to see the new years in? Nothing overly expensive.

Get in quick, lots of clubs you need to buy [expensive] tickets beforehand.

Personally i'll be going to a nice house party. :)

Got to small boys now so expensive, bar crushed new years eve's are out for me :)

Friends and family at home lots of good food, loads of drink and thats it for me I'm a happy man :)

Not going to any clubs etc but will be going to the Thames to watch the fieworks, were good last year from what I remember (and that is was not a lot).

What is the deal with the fireworks is it like a street party or what? Are there bars and clubs on the river or will they all be rammed?

You've got to because small boys are now so expensive?

New Years is the biggest load of rubbish ever. I really dont see why people get excited over it.

Every new year I go out, I'm wasted by the time 12 rolls around :D

Avoid clubs though, they cram as many in as they can. Taxi's on new year day = triple.

Cost me nearly £20 last year to travel 3 miles

Believe me im not, but its my girlfriends first new years over here so we have to do something.

Just want some advice on where to go and stuff dont need the third degree.

To be fair, tube is open and free all night on new years in london, which is pretty handy.

It's only free from 11.45pm - 4am IIRC.

Which is great - everyone's where they're gonna be by 11.45 and no-one will want to go home before 4! Well I'm going to a club 5mins walk from my house so I'll be ok

I'm planning on going to the fireworks on the south bank but won't be going out properly, most likely going to a friends house.

Did the whole fireworks on the thames a few years back and it was choas - got separated and spent the 30 odd mins either side of midnight alone in huge crowds :/

Am just having a few close mates round this year and we're going to drink / be merry / have a blast on the Wii :D

Did London last year, had a really good time. Found a pub around the corner from parliment square drank till 11:30 then outside for the fireworks. After the fireworks finished it was kaos, massive ques for the tube. We walked to Holborn and luckily found a club that let us in for a fiver each.
It was all last minute, with no tickets booked anywhere and we didnt spend that much.
