it's certainly not the first time we've seen someone open the box to a pricey gadget only to find their hopes and dreams dashed by some unscrupulous individual that's swiped the device and replaced it by something similarly weighted but decidedly cheaper, but it just wouldn't be the holidays if we didn't bring you another account of the same wrong-doings happening again.

This latest one comes to us from Thousand Oaks, California where one kid opened the box to the PlayStation 3 he got for Christmas and found a phone book in its place of his desired console. What's more, the PS3 wasn't bought on eBay or out of someone's trunk as you might expect, but at the local EB Games, where the kid's parents are apparently now doing their best to get things sorted out.

lol the pic on here is worth its weight in gold!!

i recently saw an epidode of the "real hustle", they had a stall inside a shopping centre offering a free wrapping service. The customers just handed over their newly bought gifts and went shopping! the stall staff then took out the insides weighed out various items of crap and filled up the empty box wrapped it then gave it to the customer when they returned. looks like this could have happened here!

They deserve a slap in the face. Like you would just hand your newly bought gifts to some complete stranger on a stall of all places

Just told my mum and she said it could easilly be done, she said they could have done it for my sisters laptop at xmas, but imagine the dudes face hehe, must have been slightly comical.

Or even the parents, bet it was funny.

Maybe it's a bluff and the family wanted 2 but could only afford one... so they come up with this story of "a phone book inside the box", in the hope that the retailer will gladly cough up a replacement PS3 as a gesture of goodwill. I bet the kid has stashed the console that was really inside the box underneath his bed, out of the way of the journalist's prying eyes.
