I am looking for a new online game, played SWG and WOW, but want something that is not such a grind fest that WOW is, I dont want to be online 24/7 which WOW requires you to be.

Can anyone give me some positive or negative info on LOTRO, wth reasons why etc not just its great or rubbish. Seems to be a decent price for £17.99 with 45 days play.

I play this now and again, which I suppose shows it's a casual game.

It's a good game but I've been tempted to try something else instead.

Shock-horror, a revelation, someone finally agrees with me. Someone will no doubt post and tell you that you can indeed play wow 2 hours a week.

LOTRO is the mmo most similar to wow. I liked it but it had no pvp and wow sucked any enthusiasm I have left for mmo's.

Its a nice game with some very very pretty graphics that are very nicely optimised. You'll enjoy it, the quests are pretty good but are still "go here do that" "now over there fetch that" "and kill 5 of them".

Eve is a bit different and no grind required, you can grind of course. There is mining and agent missions but equally you can gain in skill whether you are in game or not. It does have an exceptionally steep learning curve however.

I moved from WoW to LOTR and at first thought is was a step backwards in terms on the gameplay/interface and overall feel of the game, yes the graphics are better than WoW but everything else seems so DAOC.

I really missed the interface addons etc, but eventually I began to enjoy it and played quite a bit as it was just "different" to WoW. I ended up at lvl 50, had crafted a fair bit too and bought some decent gear then that was pretty much it.... Not played much since.

lotro does have pvp, infact theres a huge area dedicated to it (etten moores),the game can be a real grind fest if you want to improve your char, infact its a huge grind fest with traits and reputation quests,i personally love it though:)

You've got to be kidding, the battlegrounds are always packed. It's like a single zone version of daoc, good fun.

ive allso found this, the pvp is very popular, constantly getting people obsessing over loosing controll, even get full on raids going after 1 particular creep lol....damn that rabies.

Anyone managed the get the trial client to work?

I have downloaded it 3 times from 3 different places and tried unzipping with different programs to be told it is corrupt.

i love it, its the only MMo since SWG that i actually enjoy playing.. i recently took a 6-8week break after gaining lvl 50 with two main chars and im now working on two more 'alts' . (played since pre-beta and help run a near rank '9' kinship)
the PvP on Snowbourn is extremely lively so theres always an abundance of players in there .. you can even start a Monster kinship

Joke gunna give up now, have tried 5 different programs to unzip and downloaded about 15 gigs worth of different set up packages, all of which tell me headers are missing, corrupt etc.

Can you elaborate on this please? :p

Don't get your hopes up Zefan :p

It's firmly based on the EQ2/WoW mmo model, with Middle Earth slapped on top.

It's extremely good while it lasts, but once you've gotten one character maxed, you've pretty much seen everything that the game has to offer. And you don't exactly have a huge choice of character classes either.

They're taking their time releasing new areas too, I would have expected to be able to get to Rohan and Mirkwood at this stage.

being a fan of both Star Wars and Tolkien's Middle Earth i found both MMo's excellent fun(Pre NGE CU)!, something i cant say about all the other MMo's ive tried out. We also have quite a lot of ex SWG players in our ranks and a few OcUK members . Overall its a cracking game but to get the best out of it you need a few mates and a decent fun kinship to keep the interest up.
