Lovely Wolver-ampton!
Having never had aircon on my own car before...

Is it just plain ol' water when I need to fill it up? No additives needed?

Arrg Noo dont put water in !!!!

They dont use water they use compressed refrigerant

Right it need to be regassed on a machine and should be done every 2-3 years

costs about £55

You can't really "fill up" air con, been watching the Halfrauds advert?

It takes very expensive specialist equipment to re-charge air con gasses (Chlorofluorocarbons, not water).

Are you sure? It's not a new car...

I'm sure the missus's dad said that the aircon has a leak and will need topping up every 1500 miles or so.

I would avoid Kowboy Fit as well. They just stick a canister on the unit and top it up.

A proper air con service should have the system fully emptied and re-filled.

My system is already empty, thats what you get when you remove the pump. :p

I did not do it by the way but was stood close and pooped myself :o

Its gas, trust me...you sure he doesn't mean its leaking coolant?.
:)

Well he was blasting off about every nut bolt and washer on the car. IIRC he said something about an orange temp light on the dash and when that comes on I need to top up...He drove to Italy and back and said it usually did 1500 miles before the light came on... I think I'll just ring him.

It's engine coolant then.

Water:antifreeze

That's nothing to do with air conditioning. Air conditioning makes the cabin cold inside on a warm day.

I've got a box of various fluids oils and sprays. One of them is anti freeze and summer coolant.

50/50 as you say.

TBF, he did blast off about every inch of the car in about 5 mins... Mind you he's ex-RAF and was a Tornado engineer so he's a little more car savvy than me.

That'll do fine.

Just be aware that there are 2 types of coolant additive. The Blue/green kinds, and the purple/pink kinds (rare), the 2 different kinds don't mix.
