i'm about to order a x38 dq6 and a q6600, going to stick (when the bank balance builds up again) some OCZ 8000 2 x 2 gig memory in.

at the moment i have a 7900GT card but hope to get a new card soon (ish), now the board as pci-e 2.0 and crossfire, do i stay with nvidia and get a 8800gts or 2 3870's and go crossfire?

which one will give me the best performance?

cheers

For games that dont fully support crossfire then the 8800 will be faster, otherwise the 3870s will be faster. I would personally go for the 3870s as i prefer ATi to nVidia.

if you have the money, then you may aswell get the 3870's

Seconded.

Games that work in crossfire

Call of Duty 4
UT3
Crysis
Bioshock
Medal of Honor Airborne
Half life 2
S.T.A.L.K.E.R
Gears of War
Call of Juarez
Gothic 3
Oblivion: Seems to work you might need to patch the game.
World of Warcraft

3870's in Crossfire beat the GTX with AA/AF/HDR?.

And is my 2nd PCI-E lane only 4x? (Just got the board 2 days ago).

Yeah i think it is 4x on 2nd lane. x38 boards are both x16, although i don't know how much the extra bandwidth will help on games.

Yeah I know about the X38's. Just wasn't 100% on the P35's. I had full intentions on using one card but if 3870's in crossfire or even 3850's are more powerful than 1 8800GTX with AA/AF and HDR on then it makes my 2 day old GTX seem a little bit flawed. Also would I even see the full benefits with one 4x lane and one 16x lane?.

That is what im trying to look at(as it would save me £40 from not having to buy an x38 board)

Even if crossfire does outperform a GTX..........i would still drool at owning the beast.

Well there is this thread and another one popped up so hopefully the answers we seek may lie there.....

Maybe I am being a little bit OTT. It's just 3 weeks after I bought my 2900Pro from OCUK that the 8800GT came out and I thought then I had made the right choice. I still have time to send this GTX back and rectify this if better gaming performances lie with the crossfire set up. I've only tried World in Conflict with being a bit ill but it walks through the level that made my 2.8Ghz X2 rig weep. So even if crossfire is better then I'll still be playing my games happily and should be satisfied. Should be...... lol

Thank you for list ^

Oh and if you do get a DQ6 mobo, please post benchies etc as im thinking of getting one.

will do, first i will have to figure out how the hell to set up a raid 0!

found a site with a boot disk that said it included cd drivers and when i tried it on my pc no cd drive.

need to get it sorted before i strip this one down or i'll be pc'less
