That's the NCB out the window!

Smoother driving?

Why stop at the roundabout for no reason?

Yes if no one is in front. But if someone is in front then there's no point trying to preempt the roundabout's flow is there because it's out of your hands. The person in front dictates it.

It's the OP's fault, but it's one of those where it was someone else doing something silly and unexpected, yet within the law.

The people my brother ran into (head on, 2 cracked bumpers) have all suddenly developed a whiplash injury, their car has also accumulated damage all down the drivers side.

To keep our car's history clean, and to have it repaired quicker by a reputable bodyshop (my dad used to work with the guy there), we've said our car was undamaged. This might get quite funny if they want to look at the cars; "That hit that? Where? Whiplash injury?"

One of the apprentices at the garage my dad works in claimed money for a whiplash injury, he was working the day after the crash, the other mechanics went half way to actually giving him a whiplash injury to go with his £2000. :D

Oh so it was you causing Chelmsford to be gridlocked was it? :p

My nearest misses have been on roundabouts. Very easy to assume the car in front will go when it's clear.

True, the person in front should have not been there but you have to account for these things. :(

Roundabouts, especially mini ones, can be pretty dangerous. Sometimes you get people that think they can just pull a U turn on them by just using the indicator. No love/matey... people will just assume your indicators are broken because you are indicating for an non-existant turning! You really do need to slow right down to make sure people have understood what you are doing unless you want a potential 50/50 claim!

Rubbing their necks...and hands at the inevitable whiplash claim. Unlucky mate, it happens, its part of life and this has got to be one of the most common minor shunts. Let the insurance take care of it and move on.

Gutted for you mate, almost happened to me a couple of times! Must be annoying for such a minor shunt as well. He doesn't HAVE to go through insurance. He could simply pretend it never happened and just get it resprayed at your expense, but some people just are not as friendly as that !

That sucks about the 220, did it cost much to get it sorted?

Drove the car home, unbolted the crash bar and the mounts and after 30 minutes of hammering, bending and swearing it was looking like a car again :D

Ended up getting a Coupe bumper (already in charcoal), a new crash bar and some new mounts a few weeks later for all of £35. Eventually changed back to a 'GSi' style bumper which I got from a scrappy for £15.

I also did this in my first year of driving, years ago now. Some guy in a Rover suffered roundabout indecision and we had wing/bumper contact.

:D Result! :D

His company maybe happy for this to be settled outside of insurance. I would get in touch with his company.

Actually, you can do this. It is the responsibility of the people wishing to join the mini roundabout to ensure they know what the other car is going to do. Never 'assume' an indicating car is simply going to turn off.

Normally I'm like this, it's just where the roundabout was completely dead I can't think of a reason for this guy to stop.

What's annoying is this my 2nd accident in my 2nd year of driving :p last accident was on November 6th :p

EDIT: Not trying to make excuses but if the guy had stopped by the line of the roundabout like everyone else does, I probably would've been able to stop in time.

I lost 2years NCB earlier this year, it's a real bummer. This years renewal went up by a £100, which is really frustrating. :(

Roundabouts are the places that can catch you off guard though. You end up driving not only for yourself, but for anyone on the roundabout, and especially anyone in front of you. :D I once found myself standing up with both feet on the brake pedal after I assumed someone in front of me had pulled out on to an empty roundabout, when in fact they were still happily sitting there in cloud cuckoo land.

Yes you can do it but what I'm saying is that it's incredibly dangerous to do so blindly without making damn sure the other users of the road know that you are doing it. Oddly you cut that part out of the quote :p:D

You'd be an idiot to repair your company car privately after someone has crashed into it. There are all kinds of things that could go wrong and your company wouldn't be too happy if you'd not followed their company car procedures.
