Just been watching this and they told this couple they had won a free meal with a car laid on .When they was out they picked the lock ,cleared the house of everything by using removal men and then nicked the car ,also they installed cameras in the house to record there reaction.
Surely this can't be real and must be illegal ,what if they get caught by the police "oh its ok officer we are doing a tv program" ,"Ok fine carry on guy's".
I would do my nut if this happened to me !
It must be set up !

I think it is real

The department store fake till thing was scary (as I said in the other topic)

I wonder how many times someone's lamped them when they've come home to find their house done over, or some other invasion of their privacy.

i imagine they inform the police before robbing a house, and its not like they keep the stuff, they have to give it back so they can ask permission to use the peoples faces and reactions on the show.

i just watched the second one. and i think it is really. you can see how the passport being stolen was something that could happen. i like it

Probably fake, like the till one. There's no way that would go unnoticed in a shop

He wasn't scanning barcodes either. Conceivably, there were price tags on each item sold, but these don't always match up with POS promotions etc, for example BOGOF, 3 for 2... I'd have thought the game would have been up as soon as someone queried something like that.

A quick search on the BBC website, suggests the following..

"The participants featured in The Real Hustle have either been set up by their family and friends or believe that they are taking part in a different type of programme."

Then again if queried the con-cashier would probably apologise for the mistake and put it through for them? They're still making money for nothing.

Got to admit though I'd like to know if some of them are staged. Either that or they give them a huge amount of money for the inconvenience of being conned :p - looks like that was answered whilst I was posting!

How do you know, ever tried?

No, but it's extremely unlikely you could just place a till at an empty desk in a shop and not be seen (for 30 mins?) by CCTV, staff walking around, staff tidying the shop, the manager wandering around etc.

You would need the perfect shop, where the manager is sitting on his backside asleep, the staff are all busy on the other tills nowhere near you, there is no CCTV, there is an empty desk, and do it near Christmas time where they have temp staff so you would not get recognised.
It's just so unlikely that staff would not get suspicious of some random guy at a till.
