Am I the only person who hates the beginning of the year?

When many, many people (but not all) take up the fad that is "a super fitness regime" as a new years resolution, to get rid of the fat and get big, ripped and strong.

Not only do most of these people throw in the towel after a couple of months, but in the meantime, they completely bloat the gym out so that for the people that do take fitness/their physique seriously and make working out a busier, time consuming, and tiresome affair.

This has turned into a rant so I duly apologise.

Good luck to the veterans and the people taking a serious approach to getting fit.

Much love.

yeah I agree the new year is a pain, Its best to go later in the evening for january, february.. then back to normal after that.

But good luck to all those people that are starting out, heres hoping that they are all young fit women in my gym :)

I'll be one of those people joining a new gym in the New Year but that is mainly because my existing membership has run out and the other place is better equipped generally, it also seems to have more attractive women who go there which is just an added bonus/distraction. Although strangely they don't seem to hang about the free weights room which frequently smells strong enough to knock out a small goat, can't really imagine why they don't.

at the beginning of last year on a monday night my gym was so ram packed
was impossible to use a bench

luckily most will clear out before the month is up lol

I will actually be using the GYM this year, last year for the near £400 i paid over the year, i must have used it a platry 20 times  im gonna start road running for the 1st month then hit the gym in Feb, when the rush will have died down.

I absolutely hate it.

I'll end up boycotting most of this months training as it'll be that busy i won't be able to move. It's so frustrating knowing most of these people will come for a month then you won't see them again

Well cheer up guys, if it weren't for the hundreds (maybe thousands in some places?) of people paying a years membership upfront to use the gym for a couple of weeks in January, you'd probably endup paying double for your own memberships ;)

Agreed. My membership is too high as it is :(

TBH the NY influx doesn't bother me too much, generally there's a fair few more pretty ladies to perv at, and nobody comes near MY squat rack anyway :p

Gym (free) in workplace = win

Gaijin, I'm one of those people you speak of. Although I started my membership in September, I quickly phased out and got bored :o

I really don't mind the new year 'rush' in the gym, the one thing I do hate though is when the new people start complaining after a month saying they haven't lost any weight and that they are going to give up. When will these people learn that it's not a quick fix!

I'm usually in the gym quite early around 7am anyway so it's quite quiet, will wait til next week to see how busy it gets.

And I get my membership from my work so no need to pay for me :P although I will probably end up helping a few friends at a different gym (the gym I go to is at the other side of the city next to my workplace) so I will probably have to pay for a month or so to get started.

Well I started over a year ago but with moving house and no car I havent been in ages. Im going back this week though (maybe today who knows :P) and im expecting it to be rammed now :(

New Year gym rats, oh joy!

My patience is wearing thin as it is in my poncy new gym, think I'll stay away in Jan if I'm in a bad mood and go jogging instead... yuk!

Yeah it's not a great time of year for the more dedicated. At the moment though I'm dreading the colleges returning because it means my river will be full of crappy novice crews again :(.

Yup I hate it too. Fortunately they tend to stick to the fitness suites rather than the free weights room... still, it bugs me when it's obvious they're not going to stick to it.

I havent been to my gym yet this year (bannatynes in worksop) but apparently its manic as well, it was bad enough before christmas with there 12 days of fitness promotion, you get these half wits who come in for there 12 days of annoying people and using the equipment badly...

To counteract that balance i hate the meatheads who wear lifting belts, grunt and spend 2 hours on a bench having 4 mins rest beteen sets only to realise they are doing 20 sets for one body part!

I use the gym at lunchtime. It breaks up the work day nicely and i feel guilty if i even look at the vending machine!
