Honda DC5 Type R

I have a shortlist of the following after a lot of review reading etc.

1st) DC5
2nd) S2000
Then in 3rd RX8/350Z and maybe a Focus ST

I have yet to drive a jap motor, and is something I need to try out. My BM has to go as it is getting on my jugs. Dealer replaced steering column (yet another thing to **** up) and they then put the steering wheel unstraight only for them to screw this up for the 2nd time so instead of being slightly to the right in a straight line it is now to the left so going to be three attempts at this small task too for the BM monkeys to get right. It has had a new back box, new front down pipe and cat, and rattles like mad still. Changing gear anything over 6k induces the most horific metalic rattling noise

Cannot be living around dealers, BM suck around here period, so time to move on. Brother in law has had a Accord type r for 5 or so years.

I will own a VTEC car, considering a DC5 February time if I can find one for the right price etc. Just been watching a few youtube clips. This makes me giggle. Can you guess when the VTEC kicks in?!? :p

Want to own a VTEC car even more now, something like this

If you must have a DC5, might as well go for a pre face lift one as they are quite cheap now. The new Jap CTR isn't much more than that one you've posted.

Try a DC2 as well, you never know....

Neil.

What sort of age do you need to be to get Insured on one of these things ?

Honda engine aswell so Extremely reliable ?

21 ideally but it's still going to be very expensive untill you're 24/25 because it's import only, there's no UK model.

Yeah, engine's about as reliable as it gets if serviced properly.

You'll go mad bending the dealers ear when some trim falls off. Dont buy it.

Had more go wrong my 520i BMW than I have with my Accord Type R

Every car has its issues some more than others

The DC5 punches well above its class unless it comes up against one of the M series cars

Meh news flash BMW cars are not all that

IMO he will have a heart attack paying the sky high BMW labour charges which are insane compared to Honda Dealer labour charges

Fox never even mentioned BMW's lol.

Isn't his current car a 330i?

I am guilty of assuming but thats his usual reccomendation BMWs

As for the OPs cars being a 330i maybe thats why he is looking to other cars crippling servicing costs not the build quality that many rave about - again I am assuming

I think you fail to understand the point of this car.

So what if it's not built like a German?

Evo sums it up nicely...

Evo Review

Integra is the fastest - and arguably most enjoyable - front-drive coupe on the planet.

You missed my point - it's not that the Integra is not a good car, infact it's an excellent car, it's that it probably isn't the right car for thepharcyde going by his previous experiences and the sort of things in cars that have annoyed him :)

In essence, the OP needs to go out and try the DC5, go to a showroom/dealers that has one, take it for a spin, see how he likes the interior (I know everyone slates Jap interiors :p), see if he likes the drive etc.

If he doesn't like part of it, he can go look at the DC2 (or look at it anyway, along with the DC5), then if he doesn't like that either (or look at them in the correct order, DC2-DC5), well he'll have to find another VTEC car, one that does suit him. :)

The trim quality inside the DC5 is (surprisingly) of a high standard.

Soft plastics, good quality carpet, heavy solid feeling doors, type r plates here and there, well engineered switches and dials, recaro seats, momo steering wheel is circular perfection & nothing rattles.

Not sure whether Fox was joking or not - but the interior of a DC5 is in fact a quality interior.

Fox's point was solely this (I think, and I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong) - given the stuff that thepharcyde has had cause to complain about with cars, a car that has had a 'colourful' history regarding interior build quality may not be a totally safe bet. Now that Honda appear to have twigged on this problem and consequently made an effort with the interior of the DC5 then he might well be okay with it. But he really ought to go out, sit in one, test it and then decide.

The DC5 doesn't really have a "VTEC Kick" since it uses the iVTEC engine. Its an awesome car with razor sharp handling, great looks, lightweight with a cracking engine: But dont go expecting "OMG VTEC KICKED IN, PLANTED TO THE BACK OF MY SEAT", its not got a huge turbo charger or anything. It will however make lots of noise and when you look down you realise your doing over 100mph without really feeling it :)
