I hate New Years eve

exactly as Carzy says. I'm wont be getting drunk to forget about my dull life. I'll be getting drunk as I like the feeling and enjoy it. Much the same way as some people enjoy adrenaline.
If you want to stay in and sulk, thats fine. but perhaps it's you who should think about changing not us. who are going to have a great night enjoying ourself and living life how we wish :)..

I love this time of year.

Hogmanay can be a bit anti-climactic but as long as you go out prepared to have a good time then it is usually a fairly decent night, last year was at a mates house and (nearly) everyone enjoyed themselves, this year it is at a different friends house in another part of the country. Hopefully everyone will enjoy themselves again, I can appreciate the point about drunken eejits but at least at a house party they are usually drunken eejits that you call friends.

I can olnly ever remember one decent-ish New Year here in Stoke and that was 2 years ago in Chicago with all my old college friends.

But as some of you have already picked up on it was much the same, nothing special, except we got a free glass of champers'. - Nothing expensive mind!

All my friends this year are off to the big citys, I have left it to the last minuite and not sorted anything. I am slightly consicience of the fact that I have to return to the office Wednesday and tbh i dont really fancy going into work in the new year half cut.

So it looks like a quiet one..

I've been out drinking a lot of times in the last 14-15 years in stoke on trent and never had trouble, it must be where you drink to be honest.

Actually, it's probably down to where my mates drag me to, rather than where I'd go. They seem to think it's fun going to clubs that don't play music, but have some idiot who thinks he's a DJ. Myself, I'd prefer to go to the rock pubs as in my 20 odd years of drinking in such pubs/clubs I've never had a problem. Even at the Wagon & Horses in Meir (when it was open) we never had a problem.

I don't always go out but at the moment I am so bored staying in, no games are keeping me entertained so I will be out.

Easy I can see where you are comming from and I have felt like that on occasion but is staying in on your own any better? you are still goiing to have to get up and go to your mundane job so you might as well make the most of your free time, you might get to know your friends better, make new ones, pull some ladies and getting drunk helps with all that so why not? As long as you don't drink all the time to escape your problems then where is the issue?

New Year means nothing to me, I'm never really bothered about celebrating it in any special way - I don't see what's important about the taking down of one Kylie calendar and putting up another one, although this year I've got a Red Dwarf one to put up. Not sure how that happened!

Everyone is expected to have a good time. When in reality most are drinking themselves numb to hide the fact that their lives are indeed dreadful with their mundane jobs just days away.

And the cycle of life continues again and again and again.

What a sad person you are.
No one is "expected to have a good time" just do what you think is fun , though in your case it might be squeezing a couple of more FSB to get the maximum overclock - then post about it on forums.
I'ts nice to celebrate the new year, get your mind focussed on things that lay ahead and prioritise your aspirations. It's also a nice time to reflect on the good things and the bad things of the previous year, and how you can learn from your experience.

This year I wont be going hard, but visiting friends have some drinks, good food good company will suit me just fine.

I can't drink because I am on medication for the rest of my life. I always feel a bit disappointed because I can't think of anything to do also and I certainly don't wish to be assulted for the pleasure of going out. Last year me and the Mrs decided we would go for a drive and take some non alcoholic wine-only when we got to our intended destination it transpired that she had forgot the drinks??

Am I alone in hating it?

I hate it as well

You just about survive Christmas, then double whammy, New Year, perhaps the most depressing time of year.

You Start the road to recovery then ... :WAHHMM!!!: ... Valentines.

Anyway, despite trying to arrange an epic party to try and pass it painlessly and drunkenly, this planning has fallen through and I'm left to pick up the pieces. I've pretty much begged to meet up with another friend, the evening could be good. Starting with a moonlight Ski tour in the Jura.
