Need to speak to the seller but just wondering on some views from forum members on this X5 and anything I should be asking the seller specific to these cars or BMW's in general, never having owned one. Price seems pretty good too.

Don't really want to discuss the pros and cons of this car but just a quick check over, like it says face lift, can anyone verify this and does that mean it will have the newer higher powered diesel engine?

Also it has angel eyes, did they do that as an extra on this vehicle?

I really, really hate these. They serve no real purpose other than to give housewives 'presence'. Grrrr. Pointless things. Nice cars in their own right but bought for all the wrong reasons and craved by all the wrong people which keeps prices the high side of ridiculous. The equivilent 5 Series, a better car in every way, would be 5 grand less.

But enough of that.

It's certainly the right spec - Diesel, Sport, Auto, Leather, Comms Pack. Check the usual stuff and make sure its been serviced correctly. The gap between services will give you a clue as to how the car has been used. More than 15k between services and its spent most of its life doing long trips. Less than 15k and the reverse has been the case. I'd be very wary of buying one of those from a lady owner as they appear to drive them like tonka toys and pavements are fair gain for reverse parking becuase who cares, its a 4x4, and I've never yet seen an X5 owner slow for a speed ramp. Make sure it drives nice and tightly and it shouldn't rattle - at all. Trim rattles suggest a hard life crashing over speed ramps.

It's also the worst colour - you will never keep a black car of that size looking like anything other than a complete mess. Silver would be better as it hides the dirt and does a better job of making you not look like a pimp.

Its fine....BIG problem with them though.

I have to agree with Fox on this one, they are a totally pointless car.

If you want a BMW with a big boot, get a 5 series estate of the same spec and save yourself a few grand, with the added bonus of not looking like a drug dealer/pimp. If you NEED a 4x4 real off roader, get a Range Rover as it'll be the only one out there with the off road capability.

I've tried a 3 and 5 series, I borrowed my brothers X5 for a week and for sheer comfort and stress free motoring for transporting the family the other two didn't come close.

He's had loads of cars and says it's the best car he's ever had.

I appreciate the big argument against on these forums and was once a die hard opponent of this type of vehicle but at the end of the day when you have a family and you need to get places not as quickly as possible or the highest cornering speed or the most fun but just simply the most stress free, nothing could compete.

I honestly won't ever understand how an X5 is more comfortable - its higher centre of mavity and longer suspension travel means it bobs up and down and pitches and rolls far more than you'd get from a nice 5 Series SE. It's the best handling SUV out there but this is rather like being top of the class in special school.

The X5 is not a car you buy if you wish to waft around in comfort. Especially not in Sport spec.

quoted for the truth!

I've driven both SE and Sport spec X5s (3.0d) and Sport spec 530d, the 530d was better than either X5 in terms of ride comfort, acceleration and handling......plus it doesn't make you look like a ghetto superstar.

Well I was in a Range Rover Sport today and was slightly dissapointed TBH, he sold his 330d to get this and said he'd never go back to a normal saloon car ever again.
It seems like everyones an expert and on paper they shouldn't be any good but why does my 4 year old who knows nothing about cars prefer the X5, beside the fact that she didn't get car sick once, why would she says she prefers them.
Also my relatives who have families prefer them, do people on here who slate them have a wife and child to transport about.

Also regarding pitching and rolling and bobbing up and down, it's for comfortable cruising not high speed motoring, at the speeds I travel it was extremely comfy with none of these symptoms.

My ex-girlfriend's dad had two of these for him and his wife (he works for BMW on a consultancy basis and gets beemers cheap). I have to agree that they are comfortable and they do have a 'presence' because of their size. However they also have the chelsea tractor stereotype too - but that's for you to ignore.
Would I have one? I'm not sure, it's not a car that I would go out of my way to buy, but perhaps if I had loadsa money I'd have one blacked out with some spangly rims so I could ride with the footie players (wives) y0!

Seems ok, that X5. I would not say no to it, that said, a 5 Series on stilts with a Buttox implant is not my idea of a BMW!

A 4x4 that was initially press launched on a Race Track - which sums up perfectly its lack of 4x4 attributes.

If you want a big BMW, they already do the 7 Series if you want a big 4x4, Toyota do a very capable planet on wheels known as a landcruiser.

BMW - The Ultimate Driving Machine, but not when on stilts imo.

Fox have you ever driven an X5?

They're absolutely brilliant to drive, the drivers seat is far more adjustable than an equivalent 5 series and you'd be suprised to hear they don't wallow and rock going into corners and also they're very smooth and comfortable taking bumps with less effort.

Same goes for most 'Prestige' 4x4s on todays market.

I've driven a few X5's including a very nice 4.8i than my sisters mate recently chopped in for an e60 M5!

The X5 is capable on the roads, but crap off them which makes it a pretty pointless tool for the majority of users.

Capable as an X5 is, a 5 series is simply more capable again.

Yes, I know I'm not Fox. :D
