Does anyone still play everquest 2

Would it be best for me to start a new character or continue with my old lvl 20 Dwarf Paladin?

Any suggestion to which would be best race/class etc for single player play?

I'd start again from scratch, it's gives you a better idea of what you character is capable of, especially since a lot has changed.

I'd go with a swashbucker or its evil equivalent for solo play, found it very easy to solo with mine.

How do you change region? Guess it doesn't help using the beta Station Launcher, wanna check out Runnyeye as it's not listed.

The Station Launcher beta currently only supports US languages and servers

Right under the huge great 'DOWNLOAD" button for the beta launcher...

You'll have to use the standard EQ2 launcher.

I installed the launcher over 2 weeks ago, game has only just been downloaded in full. Less of the patronisation please.

Still, thanks, was what I thought.

PvE is well worth playing, and seeing as there are 22 PvE versus 3 PvP servers a lot more people appear to agree with me rather than you. The game was designed as a PvE game with PvP added later on by route of mutilation of class abilities to try and balance things out. I wont even get into the whole level locking shenanigans...
Just because there are more people who play on these servers doesn't mean my opinion of EQ2 is invalid. A lot of people like playing carebare games with no risk or excitement what so ever that get stupidly boring once you have completed every instance and zone a few times. Most other games with both types of servers have more on the non-PvP ones too. I'm not sure why, maybe they are scared of losing.

Also, there was no mutilation involved. PvP affected the PvE servers very little. Most changes to classes have not been made because of PvP. The game is about as balanced as it's ever been, both in PvE and PvP. And what exactly is wrong with staying at a certain level if you want too?

thanks for the input, another q which is a little controversial. Should I go PVP and if so which server? Or should I stick to PvE?

My friend and I can't really decide, I've heard about PVP on Nagafen that it can be very laggy and buggy, is this true?

cheers.
As I've said, IMO, the game is not worth playing unless you PvP. In which case Nagafen is the only server worth playing on. It is no more laggy or buggy than any other server. Try it, PvP is so much more exiting than killing endless computer controlled mods which are, for the most part, all the same. PvP makes the game 10 times better and turns it from a mediocre game into a great one :)

I never said your opinion wasn't valid, just in the minority. As for why people prefer non PvP that's simple. Playing games as a form of relief doesn't happen when you are open to be ganked.

I wasn't talking about mutilation of PvE server class abilities, I was talking about mutilation of class abilities on the PvP servers.

Level locking is bad as it unbalances the whole thing when achievement points are factored in, the only reason for level locking is to either gank newer players or to combat the fact that you're getting ganked by other level locked players.

There is no mutilation of class abilities on the PvP servers. Players have exactly the same abilities as people who play on PvE servers. Each skill has two sets of attributes, one for PvE and another for PvP. This ensures that both aspects of the game are balanced and (almost) independently of each other. The only thing which could stand in some players way is that you are limited to classes in your faction, but Exile solved that so it is a mute point. It can also be a disadvantage when fighting contested mobs as if you get attacked while killing one you are put in PvP combat which reduces your effectiveness. However the fact that you can actually fight over them in the first place cancels out any negativity here.

I don't see anything bad about level locking, though I don't really see the point in it myself. So what if people have more achievement points than you? You should always have slightly more achievement points than your level anyway. Yes, this means that someone could be better than you, but that happens even when you are 80/140 anyway, so you best get used to it. Also, don't forget that level lockers can be attacked by people of a higher level than them, which usually win regardless of how many achievement points they may have.

What is with the fear of getting ganked? If you are in a group, which most of the time you probably will be, then you don't have a great deal to worry about, as you will always be able to either win or get away. If you are solo you just have to be a little more smart and not go to places where there is going to be a lot of people. It's not a bad thing at all. The rush you get from killing other people is so much better and more rewarding than anything a mob can give. It also gives you something to do when you would otherwise be stood around doing nothing when you realise there actually is not that much to do!

I started playing this a few days back and am loving it so far, made a shadowknight on Nagafen. There's lots of ganking when you move onto a new zone (especially when the pvp range is 8 levels) but once you get a few dings there you can compete more as the level mismatches won't be so high when you bump into people finishing off the area.

It's nothing to do with fear, just about balance and grief.

Huh? You said they mutilated classes, which is just not true. There are no disadvantages to your character when playing on a PvP server.

As I said, balance is fine. There are no issues with balance over ones on PvE servers. I can't see how there is grief. Kill and be killed. It's much more fun that way. Of course it is to do with fear, otherwise you wouldn't care about the times you may lose.

No, I said class abilities.

Fear hasn't got anything to do with the sheer frustration of getting ganked over and over again.

Stop splitting hairs. They mutilated nothing. I have no clue what you are going on about.

If you are getting ganked over and over then, to put it simply, you are doing something wrong. Don't walk right through busy areas, stop going back to where you got ganked, or travel with friends and kill them back. Not exactly rocket science.

As it is incredibly easy to avoid being ganked once let alone repeatedly I can only assume either 1) you have never actually played on a PvP server, 2) you have but had no clue what you were doing or 3) You are scared of dying for some reason, even though you don't lose a thing in doing so. :)

In the end I installed EQ2 from my old dvd & then purchased the ROK pack so this saved me about a 4.5gb download & the rest completed overnight.

Started a Wood Elf Conjourer today & have got to lvl 10 but not really enjoying this character or the starting area, so I am going to give that character a break and have created a human swashbuckler aligned to Qeynos.

Starting in the Isle of Refuge should be familiar to me and help me get going a bit quicker, asuming it hasn't changed too much.

Keep getting a bit confused as its not that long since I stopped playing WOW and has been 2-3 yrs since I played EQ2.
